Should the Parthenon Marbles in the British Museum be returned?

Absolutely. They should make replicas of all of the sculptures that were taken and return the originals to Greece.

They were not taken to England for preservation! They were taken as a tourist souvenirs.

In London we also have the V&A museum with a section called the Cast Courts, which feature plaster cast replicas of many statues and monuments from across Europe. They're wonderful to behold and because they're safe indoors and out of the elements, they haven't been damaged by stuff like acid rain, pollution, or war.

They're proof that people are just as entranced by replicas. Time to return everything from the British museum which was unlawfully taken, and replace here with replicas.

wow when i was a kid the parthenon was literally in tiny peices.. look at it now.. amazing restoration

Do they rightfully belong to Greece? Absolutely.
Have they perhaps been safer in England during the modern political and religious wars with rampant destruction of cultural sites? Perhaps.
Ask the rubble of various UNESCO World Historical Sites.

As a Brit I feel proud the marbles have been preserved all this time but now it is time they were returned to Greece as they have the facilities and ability to protect them just as much as we have.

Absolutely they should be brought back.
It's so disgusting how many treasures have been stolen over the centuries that now sit in cataloged boxes & cages under the lock & key of a foreign museum. How many treasures never see the light of day again, but those countries flat out refuse to return what their countrymen stole.

Yes they should be returned, if we want we css as n make exact copies now to show the story of the Parthenon, also the story of lord Elgin and how we returned them

I’m here because of my Sociology class and after reviewing both sides, I think they should be returned and the replicas should be placed in Britain’s museums.

A deal should be brokered. Those who it was stolen from have the right to demand it be returned or to engage in a negotiated contract where they are compensated for the theft.

When I visited the British Museum in London there was this exact story about Greece wanting the Elgin Marbles back. That was 1983 and the Greeks are continuing their plea for the return of the marbles 40 later.

Seems like it's time to return the marbles Great Britain!!
