How To Open a New Premiere Pro Project on an Older Version // New Adobe PP Project on Old Version

Step by step guide on how to open newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC on an older version of Premiere Pro if you are getting the error message "This project was saved in a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro and cannot be opened in this version".

00:52 - Right click on your .prproj file // open 7-Zip
00:57 - Select "Extract Here" using 7-Zip
01:02 - Rename File (not necessary but advised)
01:10 - Edit file using notepad
01:23 - Change version number "xx" to "1" & save
01:33 - Right click // 7-Zip // Add to Archive
01:43 - Under Add to Archive settings only change file extension from .gz to .prproj
01:51 - Select OK & you are done! Ready to use as normal :)

FIX: Hey Everyone! I was having the issue that it was damaged and could not open, but MAKE SURE when you select " add to archive" you select the GZIP option NOT the default 7zip option right below the name. that fixed it for me and i hope that helps you as well.

No, this didn't work for me for the 2018 version. The 2020 file had '38' instead of '37', and when it came to open it at the end it said the file was damaged and could not be opened.

Hello, many thanks for the useful video. However I face this error message: "The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements" . I even tried importing the downgraded file into an empty premiere pro project, but still get the same error. I did make sure to select gzip compression, when add to archive. doesn't work for premiere 2020 projects converting to 2014. I get this: "The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements" Premiere CC2014 can't open it, but Premiere CC2018 can. I guess it works only for Premiere 2015 and above
