I certainly appreciate it. I never even thought of using the help command. The UNIX systems I grew up on (mainly SysV), didn't seem to do anything useful with the help command.

But, as you have pointed out, the GNU bash shell provides much more information.

You certainly seem to have the knack of finding obscure corners of the system and shining a light on them.


However, perhaps you might think about increasing the size of the font in your terminal. My eyes aren't what they used to be and I have to lean forward to see the details when you are explaining.

I've found that Linux systems come with a "clear" command that clears the screen in a terminal, as long as the terminal supports that ability. I remember having to hit 'Enter' 24 times to clear the screen on my old green screen terminal until I found the escape sequence to do that.

In xfce4-terminal (my preferred terminal), I can clear the screen completely with Alt-t c, though it's still too many characters to type :(

But it beats hitting the 'Enter' key 24 times :)

Perhaps you could do a deep dive into the bash shell completion system ... ?
