After a woman suffers from what seems to be schizophrenic symptoms, she makes a shocked decision against her son.

From "The Socratic Method" (Season 1 Episode 6): When all signs point to a schizophrenic with deadly DVT lying about her alcohol intake, Dr. House is the lone voice of reason. Under the scrutiny of her hyper-vigilant young son, House takes her off all medication and secretly sends Foreman and Chase to search her apartment for clues. Wading through her altered reality to get to the truth and save her life, House discovers that it isn't mom who's keeping the secrets and reality isn't always what it seems.

This is the official YouTube channel for House M.D.. Watch all of the official clips from the series, the funniest and saddest moments, and follow all of the doctor's most curious cases.

I love that being a good mother saved her. Without her rational decision to give up her child, they wouldn't have suspected that her diagnosis was false.

I love that House's british voice is just Hugh's but exaggerated, and yet he still makes it sound like house is pretending. Such a legend of an actor.

So caring of him not exposing the mother for calling social services to her son

I think this is the most affectionate we've seen House. House really had a heart for this patient. Even Dr. House has a heart.

He played happy birthday to himself. Even if he presents as harsh and cold hearted, he still wants to be cared for.

Wilson: "...didn't we just leave your office?"
House: "I like to walk." 😌

I like the ending of this episode. The Mother finally returns to sanity, and the son finally can go back to being a kid after being the adult during all this time

I just now realized how much this hurt Chase.
Knowing Chase's backstory, you realize when he sees Mrs Palmeri with her son, him regretting that he couldn't save his own mother. His own situation with his mother is part of the reason his diagnoses all revolved around alcohol, and why he gave the kid that little pep talk just before social services closed in.

House lying to the kid about him calling CPS so it wouldn’t ruin the new mother-son relationship they just recovered…that’s so sweet and unlike him ♥️😂

Holmes has his violin.
House has his piano.

The way he chokes out “You’re welcome” at 8:13 is a fantastic little moment of acting. House is so uncomfortable with praise, both giving and accepting, and responds to her message thanking him only after (a) hearing it, (b) being reminded of it, and (c) suffering an awkward silence while waiting for the elevator to get to the ground floor. It was the last thing he wanted to do, and the kid really bailed him out by telling him he was a jerk and giving him an excuse to make up a lie about Cuddy.

This was such an emotional episode. A mother suffering from schizophrenia knew what was best for son. The poor young man worked so hard to take care of his mother even when the world looked down on them

Wilson: "Isn't it your birthday around now?"
House earlier: *playing happy birthday" on the piano*

Hugh Laurie pretending to be an American pretending to be English is glorious.

I love how House likes to say he didn't care, if he truly didn't care he would have straight ratted out the mom.

6:52 the relief in the boy's face. And the silent pain in Chase's.

House not telling the son that the mother called social services was one of the nicest things he could do.

House picked an easy way of telling off when the son said he turned him to social services
the better way would be to tell that basically the only reason his mother is now healthy is because SHE called the social security and THAT was the sign that everybody who diagnosed schizophrenia was wrong

House is particularly interested in this case because of the son-mother dynamic. It's revealed later that he was always close to his mother--and that he couldn't be with his father, because of the latter's personality and treatment of him. House recognizes how the son in the episode rises against the odds, something that he has also had to do while growing up. Interesting connection right there.

the part at 4:15 is why i love the first season…. it’s so natural to see them struggle to think of the names of the diseases off the top of their heads.

don’t get me wrong, i love the later seasons too but they start to sound like medical dictionaries when they are always able to immediately name specific diseases
