Yes I said it.... the SKX kinda sucks! 'Value' or 'Perceived value' isn't the driving force in each price segment's popular models. I would love to hear your thoughts, thanks for watching guys!
Buying mechanical watches based on specs kills all the fun in my opinion. If I ever cared about that, I’d get a G-Shock and call it a day.

Great point. Ticking the boxes does not mean you will connect with the watch and sometimes the idiosyncrasies and faults can be charming and part of it’s character.

Value is indeed not the only factor. Watch obsessives need to fall in love, and the love needs to last. Great video, as always. Thank you.

Agree. Value certainly has it's place, but X factor is what keeps it & makes you want it on wrist. Cheers

I’m really enjoying those series of discussions, Bruce! They’re thought-provoking, and you share what you’ve learned from doing this hobby for a while! Well done!

When I was poor, I enjoyed watches and cars much more.

Brilliant video. Bruce, you speak out at last. Never doubted you would.

Whether it’s $10 or $10, 000, if you like it, and you can afford it, buy it. To quote Richard Feynman, “What do you care what other people think?”

Bruce this is a great point. I've been into the hobby for about a year and I've made quite a few decisions based on this idea of equating specs with value. Getting bang for your buck is fine, you still want to find a good deal and get the best of what you value for the money. But that's the key- you gotta find what it is that you truly value as a collector and sometimes you just need to experience a few pieces to learn what it is that you truly value in a watch. This is my favorite video you've done. Thanks and keep em coming!

I think sometimes we expect micro brands to totally max out on the value proposition, because they are a new and untested brand. We seem to have looser standards when it comes to to big brands and their popular lines

I've purchased an original metal bracelet for my Hamilton Khaki King and I love it, leather is also nice. I have also Khaki Field Officer on a leather strap which is even better than on the King. Yes, maybe it's a little expensive to buy original Hamilton straps and of course you pay a little extra just because it is original Hamilton, but I don't know why everybody says its crappy. When you buy a Hamilton at that price range I think it is a really great value in quality.

You raise some really good points Bruce. I think when we are hunting for value we forget about the importance of design. We can quantify specs but but aesthetics is subjective so we ignore it to our detriment (often just leading to a flip). Thank you for another thoughtful video Bruce :)

This is a very good Vlog. When I started loving watches as a kid, a Movado was my grail. When I became an adult and had the money, an IWC was my first major watch because I didn’t want a Rolex. Now I have a sizable collection, Submariner included, but value and unique qualities are just apart of the hobby. My next watch is a PanoLunar from GO. I’d advice newbies to really go for the love of a piece rather than the value of a piece.

Love how passionate you are about this. Really put your heart into this video ✊🏿

Excellent points BW! I have a few watches that I really love and the rest are always for sale. If it doesn't make me constantly look at my wrist it's gone. Your videos are beginning to tack off into McMahon philosophical waters. Love it!

you captured the very feeling i have toward my oris 65... sure, it could use 100 meters more water resistance, a ceramic bezel insert, better bezel action and an in-house movement... then i look at the dial, am mesmerized and i throw the spec-sheet out of the window lol

Great topic to ponder... I get caught up chasing value myself. Quality and features vs price equals value. Value is therefore a compromise, and sometimes happiness and contentment comes from more than only “value”!

Seagull Ocean Star is always on my wrist. I love it. $325 well spent.

Love this truthful mindset and view about the hobby, Bruce! Definitely strikes a chord when it comes to the reality of why we love our watches. The utility is the objective side, but in the end, we gravitate towards initial impressions and how they feel on our wrists from day to day. Thanks for all you do, man.

So true! Sometimes people (and I include myself) forget, that it’s all about having fun with the watch you’re wearing, even though there might be better alternatives to a certain model.
