Sonic Origins, later Sonic Origins Plus, contains modified and upgraded versions of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose are selectable for all games. In this video I go into all my problems with the original titles as well as give some final thoughts on the games. I also talk about the new animations, mission mode, changes to the games, and a brief commentary on the Game Gear games that are included. Sonic Origins is available for PS5, Switch, Xbox One, PS4, Steam, and Series X and S.

I randomly clicked on this video and was genuinely surprised when I glanced at the view count halfway through the video. This really seems like the type of video that would be really popular, good job!

Yeah, I hate special stages in Sonic 2 because of Tails losing rings when he gets hit. They should have removed that feature because in the Simon Wai prototype of Sonic 2, Tails loses rings on normal levels which can screw you over, but after that it's no longer possible. Also about the Sonic 1 special stages, they're tolerable. One thing that sounds annoying is that giant rings don't appear in act 3 and Scrap Brain Zone, giving you only 10 chances to collect the 6 Chaos Emeralds. I also heard reviews of Sonic Origins Plus where people complain about Amy Rose being a mediocre character because her Piko-Piko Hammer doesn't function exactly the same as Sonic's instant shield, the hitbox does extend but no invincibility, so you're more prone to get hit. Also, people complain about Amy's drop dash where she runs and wildly attacks with her hammer, because it's not as fast as Sonic's drop dash as well.

as someone who has been playing hundreds of hours of sonic in their youth, I think the bonus level complaints are just a skill issue.
Bonus levels aren't easy, but they are what really provide longevity to the game.
You could play through the game 50 times before finally managing to collect all gems and add parts to the game you have never seen before.
My main criticism for Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 is that the controls of Sonic 3 were so much better, that going back to 1 and 2 felt like playing with a cast on both hands.
edit: Sonic 3 and Nuckles was easy enough for me as a kid to complete it. I don't get the "difficult" or "annoying puzzles" criticism at all.
All kinda sounds like a skill issue. It's not a game for the impatience of 21st century kids....

Congrats on being gallbladder free!

I'm curious about Sonic games. I have been for a while. The only two I really played as a kid were Adventure 2: Battle, and a little Sonic Heroes. I definitely enjoyed Adventure 2, but I only ever played at a friend's house. Eventually I'll make it to the Genesis and I'll try them out for myself.

On the topic of Sonic vs Mario, they’re both obviously quality game series. Sonic is a much more interesting and captivating character, which is what bridges the gap in some of the gameplay areas.
