I spoke with Stan Lee at Heroescon two years ago and I asked him this question. He said:

"The OAA is my dear friend Kirby. Without him, there wouldn't be a Marvel Universe. Years ago we decided he deserved this. I, however, an the one in all movies! It's a consolation prize, but a fun one!"

He was sincerely solemn when talking about Kirby. He had to add the humor, I think, to keep up the energy level for a Con.
