The rag was inserted to keep the water from dripping in the bonding area.

When I was a kid, my dad showed me a trick to stop excess water from flowing within a copper pipe while doing a solder repair. Shove a piece of white bread down in the pipe and then do your sweating. When the water is turned back on, the bread turns to mush and is pushed through.

It's nice to know that there's still plumbers soldering copper. Did that for 40 years. Go job!

Journeyman plumber here. You are the only other plumber I have met that has the Milwaukee 12v tubing cutters. Those things are absolute life savers.

Just use a tampon 👍🏻 I learned from a female plumber and it really works ! You also have a gift for offended trolls too 😂

Must be nice to have your main exposed and not worry about it freezing

A bit of advice, you should always start soldering at the lower joint because heat rises. It may sound dumb, but I learned it from an old timer and it works

I like the paper towel trick! It must be a warm climate there to have copper pipe exposed to the outdoors like that.

When I first started plumbing I was doing a hose bib and could not stop the leak, so frustrating, some guy was watching and asked me if I brought my lunch, I said yes, he asked if I had a sandwich, yep, I do, he said give me the top piece of bread, wtf? get your own! he then took it and shoved it in the pipe to stop the water then I finished and turned the main back on and flushed it out. Best trick ever. I was doing plumbing on new pools and never actually ever dealt with water until that day🤣

I’ve done a lot of soldering in my day but never have my joints looked as nice as these. This guy is a pro.
