I like this method because it’s quick and simple. Quicker than any other method I’ve seen so far on YouTube.

I have always heard people say, "you must have someone to fall back on while you learn to knit. Someone to show you how to do things and how to repair the things that have gone wrong."
Well, it would not be right to say I didn't have anybody because I had you.
I would look up your videos and learn. Thank you so much for giving me this gift. It makes me so happy to create something from my own hands for the ones I love.

This is such a happy-making video! :)
A nice and calm presentation, but not boring at all. Really enjoying the process and being present. A wonderful approach to knitting. Thank you for making this how-to-video Cheryl Brunette...

Wonderful technique! I don't have a ball winder. Many manual ball winders put a lot of strain on your wrist and aggravate carpal tunnel, and other nerves, and tendons. I learned a similar, but more difficult method of hand winding, which I will no longer be using thanks to your video! Keep up the good work! I appreciate you!

This was wonderful. Brought me back so many memories. That was what life was like with the women in my family. I miss them.

Your approach to yarn, knitting and textiles in general is so extensive and thorough it just amazes me. There are a lot of tutorials out there, but your videos are definetly a cut above; thank you so much for them!

It was wonderful to see this demonstated as this was how I was taught as a small girl to wind balls by my grandmother. I still use this technique for many of the same reasons you listed. Thanks.

Thank you for this video. I thought I knew how to wind my yarn until I saw this. I have been knitting for over 50 years and like a self winded ball instead of the ones from a ball winder. I never thought of using my fingers till now. Smart! I have watched several of your videos and loved them all. Keep them coming!

Saw a few methods winding it by hand, definitely like this one the most! Simple, no tools, the fastest, and most of all seems to have the most integrity. Thank you so much!

I saw this video for the first time today. This is a great video but LOL... "Yarn barf". You're great Cheryl!

Wonderful tutorial! My teacher has always told us to wrap the yarn around our thumb and fingers as well. She learned from her mother. I think it’s wonderful to keep these traditions and techniques alive because most often they are the best. I am going to practice with some of my yarn. I bought an electric ball winder over a year ago and have yet to use it. I will be buying an Amish Swift because I like the design better. But I really want to master this technique! Thanks Cheryl!

This is a new technique for me. Thank you for showing us how to do the centre pull ball like this. I will definitely try this next time.

Loved the video. My grandmother taught me that technique many, many years ago. I still wind balls that way for hand knitting projects but find the ball winder better for machine knitting projects. I really do like your videos, they are informative and relaxing. It may be the Pacific Northwest calmness.

My grandmother showed me how to wind a center pull ball, but it never seemed to work for me. Cheryl's method works so well. I think it's the figure 8 at the beginning that makes it work so fantastically. Thank you so much.
