[Lyrics]
Written by Greg Holden

When I was younger
My daddy told me I would never
Never amount to nothing special
He'd come at me from every angle
He'd say
You're the last thing I wanted, the last thing I need
How am I gonna answer when my friends tell me
My son was kissing boys in the street

He tried to change me
Said I'm embarrassing my country
How could I do this to my family
Do I wanna grow up being lonely
He'd say
We have worked for our money, we put you in school
Is this how you repay us
Do you think this is cool
My son, stop kissing boys in the street
My son, stop kissing boys in the street

Now that I'm older
My daddy's heart's a little warmer
But he still won't hug me like my brother
And he still won't kiss me like my mother
He'd say
You're a part of this family, I made you myself
But the way that you act isn't good for your health
My son, stop kissing boys in the street
My son, stop kissing boys in the street

My daddy's dying
And he's finally realized I'm not lying
We sit in silence but we're smiling
Because for once we are not fighting
He says
There was no way of knowing 'cause all I was taught
Is men only love women, but now I'm not sure
My son, keep kissing boys in the street
My son, keep kissing boys in the street
When I'm gone, keep kissing boys in the street

We have heard those lines so many times from our conservative parents – killed us a thousand times than any blade out there. We have wanted to hear from them for once – “I am proud of you child” than anyone else. People might ask why we still victimize ourselves but trust me there might be tough times in life but nothing can compare what a queer kid goes through starting from identity crisis to school to every moment of life.
Love everyone,
From a queer child

I love this song, but every time i hear it since I started to heal it makes me cry because my father refused to come around. I have support, I have family, but I am still healing from that.

This is such a beautiful song and a wonderful video to showcase that. We need more LGBTQ education so fathers like that stop discriminating against love and accept their children. One day we’ll get there thanks to representation like this. Thank you for such a beautiful video!

I so much love this composition. Now about to turn 73 (yikes!), I deeply understand the lyrics and the beautiful music based on my personal history. Survived -- and ultimately thrived -- all of that and I continue to be a painter/photographer and also work deeply with a heralded acting school here in NYC. But Dance has never quite been my "thing".

That said, this particular choreographic interpretation of "Boys in the Street" is just so beautiful and heart-lifting that I have a better appreciation of that facet of the Arts. My most hearty congratulations to the dancers, director and production team who helped to create this soul-touching video.

My Step Father married his best friend my mother and he raised three daughters. He loved me like I was his own child and I loved him so much and I never was ashamed that he was gay and he was such a great father and now he's gone and I miss him so much. He was one hell of a man who raised three daughters as his own.

I could tell this was Travis Wall choreography from the start - gorgeous moving contemporary dance to go with a gorgeous moving song.

When I came out, my dad told me he was disappointed, and doesn't "approve of that lifestyle" but he "wants me to be happy" being who I am, and to live my own life. We haven't really talked about it since, but I get the feeling he's accepted it.

(now if I could only find a gay guy that wants to farm for the rest of his life...)

I didn’t think this song could get any better. What a beautifully done video. My heart goes out to all who have had to experience this. Love is love and should be accepted by all. Much love to everyone.

I absolutely love the song in itself, but especially with the addition of the dance I had tears in my eyes. A brutally honest yet hopeful story. Thank you for the song.
