Where Heaven and Earth Meet - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

Friends, this Sunday we begin five weeks of Gospel readings from the sixth chapter of John, which is all about the Eucharist. Jesus will get into a lengthy discourse about the Eucharist, but it commences narratively with the familiar story of the multiplication of the loaves, which is an iconic presentation of the Mass.

Beautiful homily Bishop Barron. Our Lord’s holy sacrifice on Calvary is intrinsically/ inextricably linked to his institution of his body n blood at the last supper by that very act, he unleashes an immense spiritual energy n grace to renew not only us but the whole universe. Through his ritualised action, we ur made beneficiaries of his grace.

This morning on my walk, a non-Catholic friend and I stopped and in the mention of the Olympics, she, knowing I am Catholic said: “I am so sorry for that terrible affront to Catholics. We are boycotting watching any of the Olympics.” And then she said something that utterly surprised me when I mentioned that our Bishops were speaking out and condemning this these terrible actions. She said: “I know the Bishops are posting but why haven’t we seen your Pope speaking out?” 😢 I don’t know the answer, but I do know that that question has arisen in our home and with our Catholic friends. We are warriors for our God and we will gather as one, “making straight the pathway to our God”. We will pray, pray, pray….and we will speak out and we will LIVE the WORD of God. Thank You Bishop Barron for being a Shepherd that leads us in truth and conviction.

This story is amazing because it describes how God provides for His people in abundance. It is a great gift that we can experience the Abundance of His Life that He offers us every time we attend Mass. Bishop Barron does a great job illustrating how the different parts of the Mass are present in this feeding of the 5000 story in John 6, including the idea of teaching, what we offer to God, and how God takes the little we offer and turns it into an abundance. O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All Praise and All Thanksgiving be every moment Thine!
