English Lessons For Grade 2

Before now now | Verb 5

Concept and Technique by Sachala Bala Mishra, a teacher (retd.), still learning

In my channel: I have tried to present a lesson through a plot / a story /a poem / a piece of literature taken from child's own environment and interest areas. A plot is made on the foreground of which the concept grows. There are pictures for visualization. Analysis of pictures, sentences, and words helps children learn grammatical rules, usage, techniques etc. The story / poem on which learning session progresses provides ability to apply grammatical rules in language. This leads to language ability.

Rules, usage, and techniques of the lessons do not come as information, but as derivation. Self-exploration provides permanent learning. Most of the lessons are in conversation format. Conversation itself is a way of communication. And language is for communication. Understanding language and application of grammar in language is given importance.

Sometimes language is used informally. Some grammar rules are either avoided or broken. This is because of two reasons:
1) Small children are more used to informal conversations / communications. 2) Time and space constraint in making a video is to be addressed.

Dear Parents and Teachers: Please accompany your children during learning sessions. Encourage and help them to build up concepts, discover things, explore, and not to memorize. Encourage them to talk, discuss, argue and debate. These will enhance the power of communication. Please do write your comments in the comment box and send your suggestions as this will enrich the contents and the methods.

In this verb lesson:
The purpose is to give a relative time - sense. Time is abstract. I have tried to present it in physical sense. In this age of smart transportation children move to different places with their parents. They enjoy stay at a new place. The School and the classroom is the most lovely place for a child. So I have taken these as examples to understand use of was / were. Children know about use of am / is / are. I have taken this knowledge as the base to help them learn use of was / were. From unknown to known journey progresses in a lovely scenario. This motivates child to derive, explore and learn.

The practice sheet 2 encourages children to express their experiences in past time and in present time in their own words. Children become aware of environmental issues.
Always encourage them to express their thought and experience without giving much attention to grammar rules. Language comes first and grammar comes later. Creating a piece of literature is the purpose in this practice sheet.

Dear children:
Talk to your friends. Say about your visits. Say about your experiences. Talk to your elders about happenings in your family before you were born and also about your neighbors. Talk about how your village was at that time and how it is now.

Have a great day. Thanks to all readers, students, parents, and teachers.
