4 dangerous descents which have left the pro peloton quaking in their carbon soles.

As we saw at the 2016 Giro d'Italia, winning races in the high mountains isn't just about climbing – it helps to be a great descender too. That said, there are plenty of descents that have also required bravery, so here are four of the most epic, the scariest, the most difficult, descents in pro road racing.

Have we got it right? Let us know down in the comments and SHARE this video!

2:41 "But if you want to stay rubber-side up..." -- don't we want to keep the rubber-side DOWN? :-)

In the dry you can sort of influence how you corner on a bike. In the wet it's just about choosing your entry speed carefully, staying relaxed and trusting your equipment. There's just so little margin for error on a road bike - THAT'S WHY I LOVE IT!

favourite descending vids: Bardet Dauphine, Sagan TdS, and also the usual Spartacus in yellow chasing the Tour peloton

Am I the only one who is now very tempted to ride down these descents.

"Rubber side up on the downhills"? Surely you must mean the opposite? At least I find it difficult to descend anything with my wheels in the air.

Leave it to Dan to sound super excited about extreme downhills. Apparently he only did flat stage testing for Cervélo

Tbh, only because Kruijswijk and Zakarin crashed on the Agnello it isn't automatically one of the most difficult descents in Pro Cycling. Before the stage in this years giro people even said that its relatively easy compared to most descents in the Alps.

cant imagine going 'no brakes' downhill on some of my humble local routes let alone what you'd find in the Alps or Pyrenees but the pros cant think like that! Tough sport, committed riders!

Cresta del Gallo is a twisty descent too, in the Vuelta last year we could see that

IDK who the narrator is, but his voice is somehow very very soothing / relaxing :D

Coming down The Burway (in the Shropshire hills) at over 40mph with a 400 ft drop to your left hand side is pretty damn scary. Interestingly, though, I find it far more daunting going up it!

Who would want to be rubber side up on the downhills? I thought the common practice was helmet side up lol, maybe its different in England

I too, love staying skin side down. Good advice there.

I found it scary descending from the Pfänder in Bregenz, Austria.

While I understand the importance of having a video on "How to Descend Better to the Left", could we also get one on "How to Descent Better to the Right"? I came across a right-hand turn whilst flying down one of my local hills, and I had no idea what to do... :(

Would have been better with some video footage rather than just stills.

Is there a video of the guy who went off the side of the ledge and fell several meters?
