Sorry, can't bare to finish the video because it's only teaching you how to protect yourself from getting hurt and not teaching you to grow. To be less connected to your love ones (family and friends) by not being able to be authentic about yourself and the closest people around you and to not get out of your comfort zones, again only to be safe. This will only lead your relationships to be more distant. But I do agree that you should avoid doing it for sympathy or personal gain. What are friends for if you can't be open and share your problems with them, they will be disappointed too and doubt how close the relationship is if they find out later that you can't be open about your problems with them.

If you want to be more distant from your love ones and protect yourself from awkward situations, then follow their advice. But, if you want to be able to have better and stronger relationships, then you gotta learn to be more open and talk about difficult things. I have tried both and definitely prefer the latter. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
