Although it's an offshoot of hinduism and as long as were talking about theravada Buddhism (the basics from the words of Buddha, not the convoluted mahayana that evolved as it spread), Buddhism is not a religion. It is a way to live. You can be a Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Satanist, atheist, whatever and a Buddhist. The four noble truths and the eightfold path apply to everyone regardless of race or religion. The Dharma is for all. The laws of karma are infallible.
