Love the menards shirt my dude. I sell pole buildings for menards and I love the company. You get good with the right guy in the store and the service is phenomenal. Doesn’t even really matter what type of trade you’re in. You can always benefit from getting to know the guys at the lumber desk

I think it will work in soft wood. Got to remember those guys with serious stuff run fifty thousandths on their rakers.

The west coast saw gauges has 4 settings and there harder than the husky gauges if u like it aggressive i think in softer wood you will be alright thats why i think its harder to get a chain to cut much faster in hardwood and still be smooth to me ash is still alot softer than that red oak good luck any how

You got this. Saying I don’t know gives you a reason to learn something. My favorite thing is to learn. This community has helped me learn so much and chainsaws are only part.
Have you tryed watching yourself file on video? Do some close ups of yourself filing I found it helped. Keep at it. !!! ❤️‍🔥🧬☀️

Don’t forget that a chain ain’t worth a shit until it’s about 1/2 way gone or more than 1/2 way…so if you need to cut a couple cuts fast… then you really need to make a new chain very used… you need to cut 1/2 those cutters off!!! Open up your gap between your cutters and rakes so you can really peal out a decent chip!!!

I’m telling you, ur gonna have to stand right over BBRs shoulder and see what he’s doing. The angle, rotation, whatever he is doing, it works. The wood definitely makes a difference.

Try using the “hard wood” setting on your raker gauge and then measure the thickness of a typical chip, when you’re fairly sure that you’ve gotten a good average measurement then try sweep up the area of chips to make sure that your not about to skew your measurements for the next step because your about to try the same test with it on the “soft” setting and then you’ll have a good comparison. Try to remember how it felt for both runs as well.
Overall user enjoyment for you (since you’re doing this for a hobby like I am) means did YOU enjoy the results, because to me, that’s what matters. IF I enjoy the results then I’ll continue, if I don’t then I’ll try something else. If I can’t find anything at all better than a stock “setting” then I’ll leave it on the stock setting.
I’m not going to go out to do something that “similar” to (for example) some of the guys out there playing golf and trying to get a little while ball into a hole in the ground that’s around (I’m guessing) 300yds because it WOULD drive me nuts to do that, so I REFUSE to even try. My chainsaws can at least be a “practical” tool compared to golf clubs. I’m not going to even ATTEMPT to do stuff that’s not practical and sink for than .01% of a years monetary income into its enjoyment. UNLESS it’s a tool because then I feel differently about it because it’s a tool a not a hobby. I’m participating in my saw hobby because it just happens to be a tool that I enjoy “fiddling” with, therefore it makes me happy. If I get hot, I stop. Same with tired. Same concept with my 4X truck. It’s all in the fun for me. Because if I’m not having fun then I WILL find something else to do instead 😮 😊
These are just MY feelings and you do what YOU want to do.

I’d like to be able to meet some of the cool people in person I’ve met on YouTube only. Hope you have a good time.

If you are still at 30 degrees across on your cutter’s… I run more like 20 degrees and a deep raker

Brother you can fine tune your( CHAIN) by dividing your flat file in 4 sections with marker so you can repeat your results and its repeatable and adjustable. Test cut and then retune your chain to the saw!! Lot easier to take extra 1/4 flat file stroke after making a test cut than it is to try take all the cutters back to a repeatable predictable length!!
