I refuse to use big oil chargers. They are trying to be seen as supportive of evs yet I believe their main aim is to undermine the charging industry to put people off evs

Well said Dave, Zap map have a responsibility to make sure that the information they promote on the site is correct especially when they are encouraging you to pay a subscription for a more in depth account.

Thanks, good rant.
Most EV owners soon learn to not go near BP or Shell, they are a disgrace .

An oil company which bought up the competition jacking up the prices, making it more complicated and not actually investing money in the network? Doesn’t seem like something that has ever happened before.

I would guess that Shell (and Aldi) have these to tick a corporate ESG box. Keeping them working doesn't score any points, just putting them in.

That is absolute BS from Shell. They don’t need any of that info.
They are simply trying to put customers off.
Dodgy AF!

I had both Shell and BP apps when I first got an EV and have to say that Shell, their missing or broken chargers and their account management is shocking. So bad that I have refused to use them over the last year so well done for highlighting it Dave.

That Zap Map publish inaccurate data goes far further than being misleading, whether or not they're paid a commission by the network operator. If one drives to a location because you NEED to charge, only to find there is no charger, you may be stuck with insufficient range left to get to an alternative!

No way should a CPO need all that personal data. All that should be need is a payment method, and maybe an email address if a receipt is needed, that's it.

I've had my EV for 9 months now, the only charger I was unable to charge at was at a shell recharge.

ChargePlace Scotland does a decent job, though one of my two local chargers has been taped up since January.

You've had the same experience at Shell Recharge before Dave. I go to Aldi multiple times a week and don't even bother trying to get them working now. A terrible company not worth bothering with.

Yep Shell and BP Avoid to prevent disappointment.

Shell main business is selling Gas, they want you to change back to a Gasoline Car !

On a positive note, Leicester Forest East Services is having lots of new chargers installed, north and southbound M1, after years of the Gridserve ones being switched off and covered up.

Both Shell and BP are on my list of 'Do not use unless desperate ' charging brands. Neither are interested in helping EV drivers, they just want to continue selling fossil fuels for as long as possible. Fortunately almost all my charging is done at home but when I've needed to charge away from home I've found both Shell and BP chargers are very likely to be out of order. The most expensive charger I have ever used was a Shell one, never again, there are plenty of other better and cheaper ones out there now.

Whilst an entertaining video, anyone who has had an EV for more than 10 minutes knows NOT to use SHELL ever. Shell are trying to stop people getting an EV, so they make the charging experience as bad as humanly possible.
As for Shell, it's possible to report them to the data commissioner for asking for and storing data that is not required for the transaction undertaken. This could lead to infinite fines, but of course it won't.

If you get the Shell RFID card they create an account for you with the intention of sending you a monthly invoice, however it can take several maps before the first invoice hits your inbox.
Yes you can use an electroverse card but it is cheaper to use shell - for example at my local Aldi it's 25p using the shell card, and 65p kwh using Electoverse
