I feel your pain.
1st boat I got was " free".
Fiberglass 15 foot.
She leaked between outer and inner hull so she was 500 lbs water logged.
Once sorted out we got several good years out of her.

You should check the wheel bearings as well. Not just grease them

I have an opportunity to get a free house. Well, technically not free all I have to do is pay for it and the yard to be subdivided from the larger piece of property. I'm currently trying to figure out everything that needs fixed so I can rehab it and maybe rent it or sell it in a few years. You are so right about knowing what you are getting yourself into. I understand your not suppose to use treated wood on a aluminum boat unless it's marine plywood. It's the chemicals in the treated wood that messes with the aluminum. You may want to double check. Enjoyed the video.

My wife accepted a "free" hot tub. $3000 we used it for 8 years or so, and gifted to a friend, who dropped $1000 in it.

The definition of a boat is a hole in the water for you to pour money in. The cheapest boat I’ve had I had the most fun in and caught the most fish out of. 20 or so years later I got a new boat decked out and spent the least time in and the most time paying off. Should have stopped with the first one. Good luck.
