My pleasure, thanks for the shoutout again. You'll love the next combat tut, got some spicey stuff coming out! On the PiP I prefer Lead for explaining things but I use both. And yes ESP works on lag.

Also I told someone I would give you a kiss for the shoutout =*

ESP is a double edged sword. How do I feel about it? Off... turn it off. You are far better off practicing and mastering your aim without ESP than with it and I'll try elaborate as well as he explained the mechanic.

ESP essentially tells the game to lower your mouse sensitivity when your cursor is within a certain range of your target. It "magnetizes" to it. It might sound nice but without practice this is just going to really throw off your handling. You will naturally become more precise over time and when you do you will have to come back and adjust this ESP to match. You only have so much space on the mousepad and the last thing you want is an inconsistent relationship between the movement of your hand how much that moves your cursor. You are far better off, in my opinion, practicing and getting used to aiming without it than with it. The most important thing is finding the overall mouse sensitively that you are comfortable with. If the sensitivity is slower then you'll want to be comfortably your arm. If the sensitivity is faster then you'll want to be comfortable making adjustments with your fingers. Neither is superior. But consistency is king.

Oh but if you're using a joystick then go for it.

so it's essentially reticle magnetism.

Not that I plan on doing a lot of dogfighting in my BMM, but this information is always good to have and practice

ESP drives me crazy... One of the first things I turn off in the settings each patch.

The top pilot uses dual joystick with pedals (Lily Valkerie - she has won many tournaments including the recent 1v1 tournament where she never lost 1 round).

That said many great pilots use kb and m. It seems that input method is not the decider as any method allows for the pilot to excel.

I played kb&m for years, then went to x56, and more recently to dual virpils with pedals. It's a game changer. I saw this video and checked it out as I was dialing in the virpil controls and it made it much smoother - might see if I can take it a step further and swap the cams out next

Mouse and Keyboard has extreme advantages now and has always people were just bad. Jonathan Winters combat tutorials are the best most people are just ripping him off.

Dammit…. To hell with aim… can’t maneuver anymore. By the time you get into attack position you’ve taken 2/3 of your ship health worth of damage.

Arena Commander is such an under-appreciated utility for ship flying practice and control binding tests.

Even if you're a mouse & keyboard purists there are settings you want to drill down and AC is the best place to get that done.

More complicated set ups, such as dual sticks and pedals will of course require practice anyway as well as setting changes to allow you to feel more responsive. You can't hit a target if you can't keep them in view.

The ESP Off/On toggle is pretty mandatory for space combat sessions, I don't know why it's not more popular or well known. I do know people who turn it off and keep it off as they're away of their flight inputs. I don't know if they're crazy or just crazy good.

As a new player I started with a stick but thinking of switching to mouse and keyboard because it feels more responsive then stick

Worth noting that whereas Winters mentions the goal is to get as close to 1 as possible, A1 has his degrees actually set to the highest number of 20.

As soon as he starts talking, you talk over him. Then "let's rewind, this is important". As soon as he starts talking, you talk over him :)

I'm going to have to pull up the original video next to this so I can watch the sections without interruption

Looks like a great concept to understand and dial in though

Stuff like this is what Vanduul swarm is useful for, to dial it in. You can just focus on aim and pause when you want to make an adjustment. Basically it's a similar process to adjusting your mouse sensitivity in FPS games. Once you have something that feels pretty good, just leave it at that setting and keep playing with it to develop the muscle memory. Don't go back and forth trying to dial it in every session. Also he said you want to keep the settings as low as possible because to much sensitivity or too big a ring slows the pip down as you approach your aiming point. If the settings are too high you have to make a big adjustment to pull on target and it both slows down how fast you can shoot and might make you jerk and be inaccurate. Ideally you want the settings as close to 1:1 as you can get them and still get some benefit from the sensitivity.

recording and watching back as you suggested is exactly what i do to tell definitively tell my progress to a better adjustment.

My biggest problem with this mechanic is how it slows down when coming into the target. I want to get on target as fast as possible and THEN have this assist help me better control staying there!

You want to know what's annoying?
Listening to one guy I need to pay attention to.. being talked over by a guy telling me that what I'm seeing is what I'm seeing...

Mouse is better for tracking pips, HOSAS is better for all other flight and positioning. The best blend is HOSAM with the weird virtual joystick thing off, just normal FPS input. I forget if that's relative input on or off, but the one without the janky line between heading and mouse position.
