Thank you fro that Soft Shackle tutorial, When I was a kid this man who lived down on the corner, he was into off road racing. He would let me hang out and learn about wrenching and preparing a rig to race. He was getting a Toyota Land Cruiser with a Chevy V8 in it for the first Baja 1000. He was the president of NORRA that created the Baja races. His name is Ed Pearlman, I long for those days, just hanging out and learning. Take care and stay safe.

Love the shirt. I have my Father's flag. He served WWII until Vietnam.

I like the idea of making my own soft shackles. I used to be an emergency response technician and have used ropes, hitches, and tons of knots.

Reminds me of my scouting days of knots. Amazing what you can make with rope😊

This is great. That stopper knot reminds me of tying the Fiador knot.

i havent been to climbing store yet, but I did convince my crafty wife to use her leather sewing machine to make me some nice machine sewn leather tubes, complete with laser etched Logos. Really nice touch and they should be durable as well.

Quality video! Only thing you're missing is some blue gloves... You know, to go w your blue rope, blue shirt, .... Blue.... Dammit, the wife warned me this wasn't funny.
Nonetheless, I appreciate the shared knowledge.

I have a few of the badlands shackles, and aside from them being super stiff when brand new, theyre great. I recommend breaking them in ahead of time instead of waiting till you're in 3' of swamp trying to slip that knot through with one hand😂

Ceramic knives work better on dyneema/spectra. Rather than push with a fid, you can pull with a bent wire. Seizing wire about 2.5 feet long, folded in half. The ends wrapped around a handle. Insert the sharp bend at your exit point and push through your entry point. Feed the very end of your rope between the wires and pull through.

UPDATE! We just got back from the BAJA 1000 2023. We had two trucks this year and hit a lot of silt and mud. We used these soft shackles many many times. They worked great! Even when caked in mud and dirt. I need to make more. Dirt isn’t good for rope. I’m going to wash them in the laundry.

Great video. How do you add the 1 inch hollow webbing? I'm guessing that you added it to the cord after you made the loop and before starting the button knot-

I stole my wife's large knitting kneedle's and cut them to make a fid tool. Works great.

I’ve been practicing with paracord making mini soft shackle bracelets. Be interesting to test the bracelets strength

What is a local shop that might carry this rope? Would a boat store carry it by the foot?

It seems to me that splicing the rope would create a much weaker stress point. I have seen other soft shackles where they pass one end under then over the knot which prevents the shackle from slipping.
