This is Auschwitz II - #Birkenau extermination camp. The place was designed commencing 1941 and operational from 1942 to 1944 with one main purpose, to kill Jews. It was purpose built as an industrial killing machine, humans in one end by train, into gas chambers and killed and then the bodies cremated. Over 1.5 million people mainly Jews, were killed at Birkenau.

It is a somber place for reflection not a place for laughs and selfies. Go to feel the enormity of what occurred there and what the ground you stand on has witnessed and absorbed.

#Auschwitz I and II are both located in Oswiecim about an 1 hour 20mins East of #Krakow in Poland. Very easy to get to by driving, bus or train from Krakow, many regular tours daily from Krakow. You need to book a ticket online for both sites prior to the day and select a language tour of your choice. This is on the official site. Tours by bus etc are really just a bus to the door. The site has its own guides inside who will accompany you to both Auschwitz I and II. Both sites take about 3.5 hours for both tours.

My thanks to my mate Lucian for recording this with my gear. I had to pull out of the trip as I just felt my back was still not 100% and I could feel the bumps in my back so a wise choice as they went through some really great roads in Hungary. I will be back on the road soon!
