The BEST method to test a car battery, Carbon Pile Load Test.

My preferred method for testing batteries as a Technician using a Carbin Pile Load Tester, a multimeter, and an amperage clamp.
Test method: Put a Load on the battery at 1/2 the CCA rating for 15seconds, battery voltage should be able to maintain 9.6volts or more. Battery should be approximately 75% charged or more(12.4-12.6V) before Load testing or it may fail the test.
I prefer to test twice to avoid a surface charge hiding a weak battery. If battery is borderline failing, I charge to 100% and then retest twice to achieve a more accurate idea.
