So much happened before Dorothy dropped in.

WICKED, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” WICKED has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.” Time Magazine cheers, “if every musical had the brain, the heart, and the courage of WICKED, Broadway really would be a magical place.”

The Gershwin Theatre on 50th Street and Broadway is that magical place. From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, WICKED—the untold true story of the Witches of Oz—transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story. It will send your spirits soaring to heights you’ll never forget.

I cried 20 years ago for Elphaba and I will cry again because if only Glenda could have been stronger or Elphaba weaker they could have been best friends into old age but they are who they are and that sets things in motion that can't be stopped and even though they end up on opposite sides they can understand even if they can't and wouldn't undo their choices. They show that you can grow and part of growing means making choices and living with the results.

I can't wait to go to the cinema. This story has captivated me for years, and I've watched the musical so many times. I'm so excited because this production is something phenomenal! "Defying Gravity" makes everything more powerful and thrilling.

I've been waiting for this for 15 years since I first saw the musical as a child. I'm typically pretty skeptical about adaptations but I'm super excited! Hope that there will be some original cast cameos though

everyone who saw on test screening they said that Ariana will get nominated for best support actress in Oscar 🤯
they compliment her acting her singing and her dancing, her comedy in this movie that so epic and unexpected
she also give a flower to old original cast as justice and pay her own way to be new original Glinda as good

I don’t know how many times I can get the chills in two minutes before my body breaks down. And I think we’re living in a golden age of Goldblum and I love it.

A 720p video in 2024? What the hell are these standards.

Same trailer for the third time calling it “new” doesn’t necessarily mean “NEW”. Do they actually sing in this musical adaptation? I’m skeptically optimistic.

Why is even a movie with two excellent singers autotuned to no end? My ears hurt

After reading the book on which the original musical was based, I was a bit skeptical about how Broadway would handle the source material in a musical version, even being a lifelong fanboy of the art. And while they DID change, leave out, and add a LOT of things, I LOVED Stephen Schwartz's score, adored the original cast, and thought the entire production was an excellent and very entertaining and heartwarming show in every conceivable category. I have also enjoyed listening to the soundtrack quite often over the many years since the show first opened.

HOWEVER, this travesty looks SO bad just from the trailer, that imo it makes Disney's never-to-be-produced live-action remake of "Snow White" look like the best film in the history of filmmaking. I am dumbfounded that they were able to take such a great Broadway musical and make it THIS BAD on film. I would rather walk the streets of Manhattan in the middle of the night these days than be forced to sit through this utter piece of garbage. Especially since they are talking about splitting it into two parts. What a grift. What other reason could they possibly have had to make two films, when one would've been plenty other than to rake in the cash they spent on the crappy CGI that I just saw in this horrendous trailer?

And talk about deviating from the source material. What in God's name are they doing with a yellow-brick road and poppy fields and flying monkeys, etc.? This entire story, even in the musical, takes place YEARS before Dorothy's story. And sorry not sorry, but anyone who saw the original musical, whether on Broadway, a touring company, or even in a college or high-school production and is actually anticipating with baited breath to see this film version, to quote the late, great singer Sylvester, “has their taste in their feet.” From this trailer, it appears to bear as much resemblance to the stage version as fire does to water.

P.S. Haters welcome.
