Charlene, so glad I came across your channel. As an only child whose parents lived out of state, senior living community became our choice for my mother when my father passed away. She has multiple chronic conditions and my dad was her primary care giver before he passed away. While their home is paid for, maintenance and care giving needs became difficult. In addition, social isolation and depression set in during the grieving process. We made the decision to move her closer to us into a studio apartment in senior living community that provides EVERYTHING you mention. She absolutely LOVES it. Just a complete 360 for her. New lease on life, thriving and independant. Now we have to visit her around her social activities (lol). So it really does depend on everyone's individual, family and health needs. Kudos and congratulations to you!

Seeing your video for the first time. It's refreshing to see someone so real and down to earth about retiring with little funds. I love your transition to being more at peace with what you have. ❤

Senior living is like living in an apartment. You have to listen to the noise of other tenants.

We sold our paid off house, downsized about 75% of our stuff and moved to an apartment (not senior housing) because we were so tired of the upkeep and maintenance expenses. We love it!

Great for you. I just turned 60 and think community living might be fun. A good way to social and meet new people. I didn't need my home. It wasn't huge but a decent size to maintain. I am currently living in my mom's home that I inherited when she passed away. It feels small as me and my sister both live here. But I am very grateful we agreed to keep the home instead of selling it. The neighborhood is very interesting. It's a old neighborhood. Some of the people who lived here when I was growing up are still here. Then there are some younger families with kids. There is a house across the street that drives me bananas becasue the neighbors are letting the house fall apart and it is truly an eye sore. There is also a store close by that at times has a bunch of people with nothing to do hanging out in the front. I enjoy having neighbors that I can get along with and know well. There is a snob within me that wishes the neighborhood was better kept. However overall I am grateful to be in a home with no rent, no mortgage and no one inside getting on my nerves. Recently we have been inundated with necessary repairs but that's just a part of having an older home. God is good. Life is good. Now we just have to maintain good health and homeowners insurance and we should be good in this home for several years. Enjoy your new living situation.

Congratulations. I have pondered over this for years. I changed my mind. My daughter and I paid for this house inorder for it to belong to her debt free. Lot of people may not agree but I have my pulse on what the economy what it will be like for her. I spent years moving and once I got rid of my rental properties, and retired from the military I said never again. I don't think I would give up my garden/homestead and it gives me a peace of mind. I have mad the necessary renovations. My family and I spend time together regardless as to what state we are in. I like my privacy.

Hello Charlene, I’m new to your channel and can’t wait to get into your videos. I moved to a new city and after being here a year at 59 I moved into a senior living community. It’s been such a blessing. After 10 yrs, my daughter moved closer. In metro Detroit I found a little gold mine and love it. Its a lifestyle I’ve worked hard for. What I love most is the quiet and solitude and at the same time I can step outside the door and see a best friend that I may not know, but we are deeply connected by age, culture and life experience. God is good…💙

Kudos to you for separating your children's things now so they won't have the painstaking process of having to go through your things later. Such a thoughtful and kind thing to do.
On another note, I don't know what part of the country you're in but I used to think like you, that senior living would offer all the things you mentioned and be great. What I've learned from experience, and this is not only my area but other regions as well, people who own and manage those places make them sound great but after you move in you find out it's a nightmare. Again, it may be different in the city you're in but especially when you mentioned that 30%, make sure you check their online reviews and ratings, go by there and hangout and meet a few people who actually reside there, do your due diligence before moving in.
Blessings on this new journey in your life

I am in total agreement with you. I made that step 8 years ago. Haven't regretted it yet.

I never saw your channel before today but this video popped up and since it seemed so different than anything I would ever consider doing I thought I would watch to see why this video would pop up for me. I watched it and I still don't know why it popped up because a senior living place is the absolutely last thing I would ever consider doing but we are all different and if that is what you think is best for you then bravo to you. I am 72 years old, I sold my longtime homestead and purchased a small farm out in rural area with an old house built in 1939. It is is fixer upper but I bought it because with the money I had form selling my property I was able to pay cash. I wanted to have a place of my own that is paid for and where I can have a big garden to grow my food and have a yard I can enjoy. One of the first things I did was have a survey crew mark all my property lines and then I bought t-posts and chicken wire and started putting up a fence all the way around my property including the front yard. No one can walk up to my door. I built a gate for my vehicle to be able to drive inside my yard and I have a sign on my fence that tells anyone who comes onto my property that if they want to contact me to call me for an appointment. I have my phone number on that sign. I work outside most every day doing hard labor work and inside too because I am still working on fixing up the house while I live in it. I hope you will be happy in your senior community, as for me, no indeed, not for me.

I'm a senior citizen, still work because I own a consultant business for 20 years now...Bought my house for a tax break 16 years ago.... 3 reasons I can't move for now. 1. My house note is $599 a month, 2. I have a tornado shelter in my garage because I am afraid of tornadoes and 3. I still need that tax break...I know things will need to change eventually but for now I here.

I've been in my community living for 2 year's, I'm 58 . And I love it 🍷 down size from 🏠 . I had to get rid of my mother's things, when she died 2 yrs ago at 86. She was in a seniors living. I also have a safety cord. I'm an hour from Atlanta. I love your channel. I'm living with Bipolar 2 disorder. An advocate for Mental Health Challenges Plus, my 3 children are grown..
