Our founding fathers, George Washington, especially did not want a 2 party system. But that is what we are stuck with unless we burn the whole thing to the ground and start over. To me, the biggest problem is the lobbyists.

I remember when people didn't talk about who they voted for or are going to vote for. Now all we have is political tribalism. Both parties are different wings of the same dirty bird.

Because we only have 2 parties and it mostly comes down to picking the lesser of 2 evils.

We have much the same problem in the UK. The Labour Party and the Conservative Party have never really made anyones life better without first making someone elses life worse.

For me, it's all about the issues and policies. That's what I vote for, and unfortunately, most policies and issues are usually very personal to people, which is where the divide comes in. While the media is partially to blame, I don't blame them for all of it. I blame the politicians -- and that includes local, state, and federal lawmakers and Congress ... not just Presidential candidates. I also blame a lot of it on dark money and corporate influence (i.e. our lobby system). I've been saying for years that If I had my way, I would love to see the two-party system dismantled and lobbyists expelled.

I find it sad that millions of people throw their vote away by voting for the lesser of two evils, instead of voting for a candidate that actually represents them.

I am a 57-year-old black man and I hate, absolutely HATE when I’m talking to someone and they assume they know my politics in advance. I love shaking them up by telling them in the last 6 presidential elections. I’ve voted 3X times for Republicans 2X times for Democrats and 1X for a write in candidate and don’t bother trying to guess, you’ll almost certainly be wrong.

First, I'm number 138 in the comments. Second, I feel you brother. Politics have been goin' on since i got here in 1967. Now, i didn't "pay attention" to politics until Ron Paul last ran. Now, i consider myself a peaceful, compassionate man that knows good, from bad. I'm simple. And with that, yes...i still feel it should-a been Bernie the whole time. However, here we are NOW....right now....at this very moment...NOW! We got dynamics happening that will change the entire direction of our American experiment for the good (hope) or for the bad (fear)...it's that simple. I'd pick HOPE over fear, any day of the week. I reside in the very blue state of Massachusetts and for the seven years prior to this year we had a popular common sense thinking REPUBLICAN Governor Charlie Baker. The man was a fiscal conservative who wasn't afraid to spend money wisely. He was moderate to left leaning on social issues but with a pragmatic approach. During the pandemic his policies followed the experts, yet with proper spending was able to rebate every tax payer with the surplus that resulted. If he decides to run in 2028 a Republican is going to win our state for the first time since 84

This is one reason why I support ranked choice voting (instant runoff). In theory we'd elect candidates that have more broad support and candidates would need to campaign to be someone's second choice to increase their chance of being elected. The common system we have today in the US keeps us divided and candidates campaign to the extremes. Some states are starting to adopt this type of voting system, but it's an uphill battle.
