Mafia 3’s issue wasn’t the open world, it was the insane repetition. The actual world was pretty interesting

The story and characters in Mafia 3 outshine the lackluster open world. If you go into the missions as setups to take down each chain in command its really cool. First mafia game to give you that true feeling of grass roots Mafia Boss.

I had SO much fun playing Driv3r with my cousin when we where young! countless hours trying to find the fastest and coolest cars in Miami and Nice, or stealing a big truck and rampaging hitting other cars in Instanbul. Playing the game years later was a huge let down, but, i still have these fond memories from back then when such a simple game brought us so much fun!

I loved Driv3r as a kid. I never played the missions, just used cheats and had fun. Also the bugs were cool. Near the airport in Nice you could fall through the ground into what i called the shadow realm. You land somewhere under the map and when you drive out of the area you get catapulted hundreds of meters into the air and across the map

I agree with most of the points, but Mafia 3, I don't think it failed from open world. I loved driving around, viewing the city, listening to the music. I just wish the gameplay wasn't so repetitive. Imagine, Mafia 3 mixed with GTA style missions. Be incredible! :D

Mafia 3 was actually good for me. What frustrated me from Mafia 1 and 2 was the fact that they felt like open-world games (especially Mafia 2) but they really weren't, and a lot of stuff from the map was gorgeously designed but completely useless once you completed the mission (that actually happens a lot in GTA 5 and Rockstar doesn't get as much crap about it). I actually liked that in the Mafia 1 remake you can actually tour all of the map (unlike the original Mafia 1), but still a lot of places become inaccessible once you're done with the missions. I hope Mafia 4 retains the true open-world nature of Mafia 3, but refines it.

Mirrors edge catalyst will always hold a special place in my heart for being the first game to introduce me into the world of parkour gaming

Ya know I've been watching this channel for many years now, and I gotta say my favorite thing about them, is how varied their videos are. No two of their lists ever feel the same, they talk about so many different games that don't get attention from other channels like this and it's great. I've even checked out some games they've mentioned that I never knew existed. Keep up the amazing content Gameranx, much love over here.

Driv3r was great for kids like me, who had parents that wouldn't buy them GTA 3 at release. Easier to convince them that it was just a mature racing game, so it holds a special place in my heart. Also hunting down all the Tommy Vercetti clones was pretty fun.

I had never tried gta3 and didn’t have a PlayStation so ended up with Driv3r on Xbox instead. I’ve spent crazy hours in that game and absolutely loved it. The first time finding the GoKart track was one of my fondest moments in video gaming. Now having played GTA I totally get what you are saying. But Driv3r will always hold a special place in my heart regardless of how terrible it actually was.

I actually quite enjoyed Homefront: The Revolution. It definitely had some issues but I thought the story was decent enough to make me wanna continue playing. Then the DLCs were pretty good too in comparison and it was nice to get a VA for the player character in that too

I love the Mafia series, even Mafia 3 despite how repetitive it becomes. The only thing I wish they did differently was add more “original” missions to break up the monotony of capturing districts. Also, just pressing B and making the district’s boss come to their knees before killing them was the biggest letdown of all 😔

I disagree on Mafia 3. It had a rather interesting open world that was fun to drive around in, and locations that were fairly unique. It's always interesting driving around in that game, going from one side of New Bordeaux to the other and seeing how the world changes, getting cleaner and more elegant as you go, or vice versa. They also really did their homework in terms of capturing the 60's aesthetic. Mafia 3 makes me feel like I stepped back in time to what New Orleans probably looked like in 1965 or so.

I feel like Mirror’s Edge Catalyst gets a lot of unnecessary hate from people for being open world, but you know for a fact if they tried to be linear like the first game people would complain that it’s not open world. The gameplay is great, story can be a bit cringe, but the missions and the time trials were super fun. And the online was super competitive as well. Not to mention it’s graphics and scenery is timeless.

Prince of Persia 2008 is a masterpiece, would love nothing more than a current gen release. That soundtrack,

Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint should also be considered. I had "fun" in the games when there was a story to follow but once u beat the game it's literally nothing to do but go around trying to be tactical and cool while clearing bases. It's weird how they make such huge beautiful open worlds but have nothing to add to them.

WOW! I was not expecting Driv3r, which I still pronounce Driv three are, to make this list.
Driv3r was one of the games that I've been most excited to play before its release and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't buggy for me but this was 20 years ago and maybe I just forgot.
Driver 2 is still one of the best games ever. The addition of actually being able to get out of the car is iconic.

Two things I totally hate about ME: Catalyst are that the open world is about a 1/3 of the full map (also, the initial area of the map where you start the game is no longer accessible unless you glitch out of it) and that it has a more futuristic tone, some structure designs make no sense at all and look weird.
