Ask your law enforcement in the areas you magnet fish(particularly ponds) and see if you logging a GPS location when you find potential evidence from a crime would be desirable so that their divers could return to the actual spot where you found it for a more complete search. Handheld GPS is cheap and it might make them appreciate what you do more. All you would have to do is set a waypoint when you find something.
