Option Trading For Beginners: How To pick The Best Contract Expiration Date

You can know where the stock is going to go, but if you select the wrong contract expiration date you can still lose money. I go over how I use contract expiration days to accomplish different goals with different plays. There are rules of thumb to follow, but selecting the best expiration becomes an art you will acquire after experience. I spend some time going over my recent play on tlry stock and how I used various expiration dates on contacts to build my play. At the end of the day though, if you are looking how to trade options, the biggest thing to grasp is the difference between the stock and the contract. This is where expiration date comes into play, once you find the balance you will start to naturally see the good deals and bad deals.

So to paraphrase you money management for short term trades is to play conservative and get your money back then let the rest ride as it effectively the houses money. Short term trades are for immediate moves. Long term trades are all out of the money.

Have you always traded rather quickly? I'll usually go out and buy 3 month exp date with either a .8 / 0.25 delta.

Why not buy a 5 min long option and a sell a 5 min short option in a non volatile stock and profit every 5 is that not a thing?
