SCOTT JOPLIN - THE ENTERTAINER

It's my pleasure to play for you "The Entertainer". This is a very famous 1902 classic piano rag written by Scott Joplin, perhaps one of the most famous piano tunes of all time. it was used as the theme music for the 1973 Oscar-winning film The Sting.

The Recording Industry Association of America ranked it at No. 10 on its "Songs of the Century" list.

I've been playing this tune since I was a child. I remember playing it in my school assembly! Recently I learned how to play the 3rd part by memory. I brushed up some of the sections where I was a bit rusty and recorded this performance.

Keyboard used today is the STUDIOLOGIC NUMA X PIANO using the UPRIGHT piano model.

I remember you played this at a party for your grandparents when you were about 10. It may have been for their silver wedding anniversary.

Well done, and a beautifully sounding upright piano patch. Very authentic sounding too.

Haven't heard the whole thing for YEARS... All those bits you hardly every hear but I still remembered... Very nicely played... I think the technique is called "stride piano" where you play the bass notes and chords alternately with the left hand and something I can't do reliably enough for Joplin...

Thanks for this. It's nice to hear an interpretation different from the Marvin Hamlisch version (which is still a great performance).

Wonderful. This one, or Maple leaf rag, or Honky tonk train blues. I must learn one of them. But it's not easy...

Excellent job!!! Very nice performance. Very expressive where you needed to be. If you missed a note I couldn't tell. In one of your other videos you were playing the Korg Nautilus and playing a Bach piece and added a note. You're written comment in that video caught me off guard and made me laugh as you said something like "Bach never added that note". I love your sense of humor and your showcasing of new or old keyboards you may have. Keep up the good work and keep having fun with it. Your light heartedness mixed with your honest and serious musical approach to your videos is what makes them "entertaining". See what I did there? Take care.

Respect! Very nice and precise striding, Sir! I still tend to hit wrong notes in the left hand despite having practiced this badboy quite a bit 😂

Great job Woody, playing without the sheet music too! I noticed you had the dynamics in there which helped make it more dramatic. I am not sure familiar with the piece but were there tempo changes in it? Again great job.

So nice to hear this piece not flying at 140-160bpm+ … It’s as if music doesn’t have to be performed by virtuosos who show off insane technique in order to be considered good.

Hello, Yesterday Studiologic released new voices for NUMA X PIANO. Please, could you try them? It's a set called "Movie Brass."
