"You can forgive them, and still walk away". A lot of black women need to hear that second point. My grandmother stayed with my grandfather and got ABUSED. He was a war vet so thats part of the blame. My grandmother ended up losing her sanity from all the trauma. Then, my father ended up being traumatized and still cant get it together. I believe his faith in God or lack thereof is a result of my grandmother trying to pray her problems away instead of doing whats best for her and her children

When your sexual abuser makes you feel your body is not yours/outside of your control and your community elders do the same, it can be incredibly challenging to your mental health. The shame around sex and body policing needs to stop!

Thank u so much for sharing your story! A lot of women including myself have been assaulted and it, alongside extremist religious dogma, made us feel ashamed of ourselves for something that wasn't our fault to begin with! God created us with sexual desires and sex is NOT a bad thing. I wish more community elders had compassion for women whose bodies experienced sexual trauma, rather than placing so much harsh judgment on us and policing us. The judgement--It's not helpful towards allowing us to overcome shame concerning our bodies!

There are men who can outspend the household income just as much as some women. My ex was an alcoholic and on our combined income of $150, 000 a year we were constantly broke. I could never afford new clothes, like my work pants became see-through from wear.

I TOTALLY agree with your #6 point! I went thru the SAME THING!!! I thought something was wrong with me and my ex husband thought bc we were not intimate as often as he thought that it was okay to step outside our marriage. So thankful I’m mentally and spiritually in a healthier space

I went through the same thing with assault and having issues with my body regarding sex. I really thought something was wrong with me until I met the right person who was understanding and very patient. I just needed to feel safe.

#8 was huge for me! I saw a lot of horrible marriages and suffering staying in them and I was determined I would not do that. I didn't tell anyone but my mom and younger brother my plan to divorce as to keep all the opinions at bay.

I had all that plus the cheating. I also did all of the counseling, fasting, praying, accountability, speaking the Word over my marriage, etc. I still left. And I still have saints of God telling me spiritually God still wants us together because he hates to divorce.
