As a member of the G3 cult, I am obligated to pick G3. FAL pretty neat though.

my uncle fought in the Falklands he was a royal engineer and was tasked with demolishing Argentinian defences and mine fields . he said one of the main reasons we won was we had the semi auto FAL but the Argentinian forces had the full auto version and they would shoot full auto all the time from so far away the rounds would fly way above his head he said he felt confident enougth to just stand up while under fire because they couldn't hit the moon from 3ft away let alone hit a still target from 500 to 600ft . our boys are trained to be marksmen they would take time aiming shots . he was tasked with blowing up a weapon and ammo storage site but got a chance to piss about with some of the Argentinian weapons unloading a few mags into a hill on full auto he said the recoil and muzzle climb was Insane . another funny story he told me was his friend getting sent home because his mum jokingly asked him to bring a penguin back being the dumbass he is he tried to grab a penguin not realising they actually have really sharp beaks . the penguin sliced his arm open from elbow to wrist and cut so deep it severed the tendons in his arm . he got discharged because he could no longer hold a gun . another tail was he got called to rescue an Argentinian who had gone for a piss in the night and stumbled into the middle of a mine field. realising his mistake he sat down and waited till morning only to find out his position had been captured in the early hours of the morning and he was now surrounded by amused brits . my uncle had to clear a path through the minefield so he could get out and be captured

The first half of my time as a grunt was with the FAL. Looking back, I’m surprised how much work went into building it. It’s a good all around tool.

A couple observations about the FAL. There are modernized versions of the FAL like the DSA SA58 IBC and IBR. Also, Imbel in Brazil used to make the MD97, a 5.56 version of the FAL and now make‘s the IA2, a hybrid between FAL and AR15

As an owner of a full automatic G3 and Fn Fal I can tell you they are both great guns. I have shot a M14 I don’t own one but they are very hard to control in full auto unlike the G3 an FN. The M14 is very accurate in semi though.

I love the M14 and own a M1A but if I were going into combat and had to choose between the three, I would go FAL.

The FAL is the best on paper, but the G3 has the unmatched ability (among battle rifles) to reload using an HK slap so it's obviously the best.

Another thing to note about the FAL in particular, FN was working closely with the British to chamber it in an intermediate cartridge after they reviewed captured STG44 rifles in 8mm Kurz.
But because of NATO agreement and the US refusing to step down from .30-06 / .308 chamberings, the FAL and G3 ended up using larger calibers then they were originally intended which increased recoil and weapon vibrations.
Makes you wonder what could have been with a FAL / G3 in something like 6.5mm Swedish or .280 British.

My Uncle fought in the Rhodesian bush war as a Scout. He used and loved the FAL.
My Dad loved the Bren gun when he used it during his National service in the British Army.

You should reach out to Activision/Blizzard.

They could probably use a reference arsenal like that.

They don't even have a Scorpion in COD: Cold War

G3 of course, still being used all over the world. I myself used it as well in my service(target shooting only tho :D).

The reason the FAL hasn't had any major dmr/sniper role is the inherent imprecision of it's locking system. The G3 and the M14 both have 2 contact points with the trunion (for the G3, it has 2 rollers and for the M14, 2 locking lugs) while the FAL only has one (on the back of the bolt where it locks into, right behind the magazine). This provides the G3 and the M14 a more reliable and consistent locking setup due to requiring 2 contact points to be "insinc" with one another instead of only requiring one. The consistency of the bolt lockup and consequently. the time the bolt carrier can start moving (G3)/the bolt carrier can start rotating the bolt (M14) affects the time the cartrige remains fully locked into the chamber as well as the exact horizontal location of the cartrige. The more reliable said locking system is, the smaller the diferences between each shot become, thus more accurate/precise (there's a diference between the two, but I don't care).

There are upsides and downsides to each system, for example: The G3's roller delayed blowback is extremely simple (in terms of the number of actual moving parts) and is condusive to cheap and easy to manufacture recievers while also being the most potentially accurate operating system due to the small impact it leaves on the harmonics of the reciever when shot (mainting a stable barrel). The M14 and FAL on the other hand, are both gas operated which allows for finer tuning of the recoil impulse felt and are much cleaner operating systems (leaving all the gases in the gas tube), the difference between the two is that the M14 is more potentially accurate while the FAL is easier to clean and harder to induce mud and dirt into the locking recesses.

Out of the 3, the FAL is what I'd take. Specifically a STG58. The BREN is a nice light machinegun. But let me know how that's playing out when carrying it half a day.

I carried the SLR (the improved UK version of FAL - reciprocating charging that folded on release and sand clearing cuts on the bolt carrier) for a few years before the L85 was issued - it wasnt as accurate as the later issued L85 but accurate enough - and unlike the L85, it was reliable in all conditions and things didnt break and fall off of it, and in my opinion it was a more solidly built than a G3 but with 1 weakness - the rear sights and optic mounting to the top slide, the largest thing I carried on the SLR was the humungous IWS image intensifier sight - it wasnt fun to hump around- the downfall is the rear sight is mounted on the butt, and it was common knowledge that breaking the weapon open to clean it risked a shift in zero slightly after reassembly - for this reason it was common practice during the lead up to shooting competitions for soldiers not to fully strip the SLR for cleaning but instead to clean as best you can without breaking the hinge open - the safety catch can also affect trigger pressure if fired left handed if your hand pushes up against it as you squeeze -

Sniping? M-14. Dropping out of planes? G3. Overall battlefield use? FAL. All 3 are great rifles and you should be proud to own any of them.

The design language of the G3 resembles the cetme and FAL so well. It's cool that the similarities are so apparent.

Perfect timing I am looking into the FAL and G3 for a new gun and first classic

G3 is one of the most robust battle rifle in the world. Easy to use, and very strong. As operators a trick we used to eliminate the lack of bolt catch is that we put two tracer rounds first so we changed mags as long as we saw the trace and one round was always in the chamber.

A FG42 with some modern upgrades would be nice!
