Cambodia's Building a SHORTCUT TO THE OCEAN?! // Funan Techo Canal

Показать описание
Construction has started on the Funan Techo Canal - one of the biggest construction projects in Cambodian history. It's a 180KM canal that will connect the Mekong River to the Gulf of Thailand - effectively cutting out Vietnam from shipping via water. Most manufacturing in Cambodia is done in larger cities like Phnom Penh, Battambang, and Siem Reap. These cities are all connected by water. To ship the goods, it makes sense to go via the Tonle Sap to the Mekong, through Vietnam, and to the South China Sea. This new canal will make it possible to go from the Tonle Sap to the Gulf of Thailand without leaving Cambodian territory. It's a step towards making Cambodia more independent.
But there are some concerns. We'll go through them all, and I'll also take you to one of the groundbreaking celebrations that happened when the Cambodian government declared a holiday in order for all Cambodians to have a chance to celebrate the future canal.

This canal will belong to Cambodian people in the future, as soon as it finishes Cambodian economy improving.
Cooperation with China is a win-win for both sides.
Thanks for your information,

When Vietnam asked China and Japan for loans to build high-speed rail for them, it was not a debt trap. When Cambodia asked China to build a canal, the Vietnamese said it was a debt trap.

My parents survived Khmer Rouge and I’m just a lost Cambodian in America but I always like to stay up to date like I’m really rooting for my homeland to restore its glory right.. I understand this raises a lot of controversy and I hope this is a harmless way for Cambodias growth ❤

The Canal was built during the French and Communist era. This was one of my favorite places. The lands along the canal is suppose to be use for farming Only and the government might one day take it back. The local people build roads along both sides of the canal. The canal have water gates that control the flow of water. You can drive a car or scooter along the canal and all you see a open lands with beautiful sceneries, coconuts trees and palm trees and rice farms and some kind of flowers. The local village was at a distant. The local use the canal for farming and people fish in it. Later this unknow canal changes. Not the local villagers but people from outside those village came built a gas station, a stop shop for cold drink, eatery place. Those commercial trucks, container trucks use the canal roads and they damage them. Next, outsider came and built houses and other structures and live along canal. Now, the same canal is being upgraded, widen make it wider and and giving it a name. Some houses are demolish. There is no enviromental impact.

I've watch your videos a lot and appreciate the videos you have put out to educate people on the local perspective of things to let outsiders know and as a local as well, I have a couple of things to share as one. Regardless of the political points of view, It is really in the best interest of Cambodia that we are economically independent and this is significantly important. Remember that Cambodia isn't that small and has a complicated geography, due to historical events leading to the present day frontiers. The Mekong splits Cambodia into different zones, but none of those rivers do flow out directly to the sea, all have but to flow past Vietnam and that is crucially irritating if you want to built a self reliant economy to compete at least. It is really time for Cambodia to lift her weight. it is do or die time.
