1225 Cartridge Replacement Moen Tub and Shower
In this video, I will be making a minor tub and shower repair and stopping the shower and tub faucet from dripping. The faucet I will be working on is a Moen tub and shower faucet, and the cartridge I will be replacing is a Moen 1222, but it’s not the manufacturing brand. Still, from a third-party company that makes all kinds of faucet parts from Moen, Kohler, American Standard, Pfister, and more at a cheaper price, this company is called Danco, and I picked up this cartridge from home depot.
First, I cut the water off to the home and with the water off. I remove the cover plate and handle, breaking everything down to the main cartridge. And to remove the cartridge, I use a specially made tool for moen 1225 cartridge removal.
This is one faucet that I can say as a plumber, and in my opinion, is the best and most used type for tub and shower water supply. This valve, I feel, is greatly made, durable, and looks great. Very easy to make repairs or install. This has been my choice of tub and shower faucet for years. I have worked on many different types of tub and shower faucets, but I feel no other faucets can compare.

Thanks to you Claude, I did it!!! At age 82 an accomplishment to be satisfied with. I watched your video several times until the steps were clear in my mind. "3.12 in Cartridge Puller for MOEN" this little gadget from Home Depot did the trick of pulling out the cartridge. Thank you so very much for showing us such a detailed and well to understand video.

This video saved my bacon. I got a water leak in my shower when I was about to leave town and my lady and baby were going to stay home. I had to get it fixed fast. Thanks

For those of you possibly having issues... This is a very informative and helpful video but it (and most of the other YouTube videos related to Moen cartridges) gives the impression that you only have to choose between the 1225 or the 1222 posi-temp models. Turns out older houses (showers installed before 1990) used the full brass, 1200 cartridges, not the 1225. I first tried installing the 1225 and the cartridge leaked. I then pulled out the 1225 and compared it against the old one. I noticed the 1225 length is a bit longer than the old cartridge. I then looked up some more info and found out that my shower requires the 1200 cartridge. Once I installed the 1200, it worked perfectly. Hope this is helpful for the folks with older homes.

You can buy the Moen 1200 or the equivalent one by Danco. The Danco version is about 2/3 the cost of the Moen.

This is the best video for cartridge replacement. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. I really appreciated the info on what cartridge to buy for replacement. I think before starting, for people like me who start and stop the video for each step, it would be good to mention that the water needs to be turned off FIRST. (I know it is mentioned after handle is removed) The extra tips and posting text on the video is absolutely informative
This is a thumbs up for sure!! 👍👍👍👍

Thank you! Easy step-by-step instructions. Saved me from another $500 water bill and a lot of money from hiring a plumber by doing this myself. Empowered!

Thanks so much for this! I was able to buy the correct parts at Home Depot and I was doing fine following along until it came to removing the old cartridge. Stupid thing wouldn’t move! Ended up calling my brother who is obviously stronger than me! He got the old one out, the new one in and the drip drip drip is gone.

Thanks for the video! After I removed the retaining pin, the valve didn't come out easily, so your video told me to use the white tool to loosen the valve. I had just replaced the valve less than a year ago, so I was surprised it leaked again so quickly. In my case, there was an old O-ring that was in about 5 pieces. Not sure why that caused a leak, but next time I'll definitely check inside the valve body. I cleaned the valve, re-greased all gasket surfaces and reinstalled with success (no leak)

It took me a year and a half to fix! Why? Because I tried once during COVID and was struggling with depression. Now I’m better thank God and I tried again. Was super easy. Bought the tools and replacement and spent maybe 30. Took like 30 minutes in total. It the best part is that I was able to do it after trying a year ago and failing.
Thanks for the video.
