Good video. As a professional illustrator for over 40 years, I hope I can offer you some simple, practical advice which will help in your progress. Two really simple things to help you sketch more loosely and with greater freedom - hold your pen further ‘up’ (towards the cap end). It’ll feel strange at first, but it gives the nib more ‘uncontrolled’ movement. And try not to ‘lift’ the nib off the paper when you draw different elements of a building - as if you’re drawing with one continuous line. It’ll give your work a nice ‘sketchy’ feel. You’ve certainly got some talent there and you can already see the progress through your sketchbook. I hope you don’t mind my offering you advice. Keep up the good work.👍🏻

Bryant, you are really good! You can REALLY SEE the learning and progression of your artwork as you flip through your journals!

I've done a 30 day neurographic challenge that turned into 6 months, now I've just started a 30 day flower challenge and in only 4 days my leaf game has exploded. I think this would work with writing as well

I am a graphic/layout designer and these sketches are BEAUTIFUL!! I really love the style and the sketch from June 16th with the shadowing behind the net (?) got me chills! LOVED IT!
Other sketches got me goosebumps aswell: July 1st, 8th, 10th then the watercolor ones?! Omg all of them!! You made them pop put of the page! Incredible work! You should try 2 page scenery too, if you have the patience and time obviously. I can only encourage everyone to try not just urban sketching but any! It does not matter if it is not like any style already existing because it is your own ❤ this is one of many things my dad taught me who is also an artist ❤
Be proud of your work!! ❤

I just finished watching your “I Tried Urban Sketching for 30 days”. As a professional artist I commend you on your journey.
I have 2 comments that will, hopefully give you a little confidence.
1. Quit making the comment “I am not an artist.” Baloney! You do have some skill and it’s true that there are rules to drawing. Any attempt at drawing sets it’s own rules. Once you put pen or pencil to paper with the purpose of interpreting what you see, you have succeeded.
You want the building to look perfect? TAKE A PHOTO!
2. If you want the buildings to look grounded and not look like they’re floating in space. Learn basic perspective. Draw what you see—the shadows might not look correct but keep at it.

You are doing pretty well with the perspective, I thought. I admire your extreme bravery in starting with pen first! For watercolor help I would check out Ian Fenelly. For a waterproof ink, try Deatrimentis document Black. Very fountain pen friendly. They have a whole line of waterproof inks in all sorts of colors. You are doing great! Stick with it 😁

This is such a great video, thank you for sharing your entire process, the good, and the challenging [I say this because there was no ‘bad’ or ‘ugly’]. I understand being hard on ourselves when starting out, especially in comparison to professional artists and what we see on YouTube, but your work looks great! Keep going and trying out new art styles and techniques. x

Ik voel me gelijk jouw verhaal...mn urban is redelijk genoeg...ik ga me richten op " plein air " ....dank je dat je mij mijn eigen verhaal bevestigd.

Bu the way!!! You are a artist. Keep going. I painted for a couple of years, but never learn to draw.
Went to a fulltime class for watercolor for 4 months.
So I try to learn todraw now.. You inspire me!

thank you for this video! it is really motivating for a beginner like me because all i can see in the media is the end result without knowing the effort it takes when they're just started.

Ive been trying to get back into drawing and this really helped put some pieces together for me. I have a lot of trouble breaking things down into simpler shapes and watching this it hit me that houses and buildings have shapes that are "easier" to identify and process. I did one sketch already and I look forward to doing more structures, houses, and buildings! Thank you :D

I like how the word 'courage' was etched in concrete in front of the building!

Wow, your progress is impressive! Next challenge...take your sketchbook with you wherever you go - coffee shops, bus stops, wherever, and sketch. Well done!

Yes more urban sketchers around my age that aren’t retired 😅 I always want to go to meetups to get more feedback/inspiration but they are often when I’m at work 🥲
