A Conversation with James Darren

It is with great sadness that I post this episode today. James Darren was a multi-talented actor and singer. From his iconic roles as Moondoggie in the Gidget films of the 60’s to his starring roles in “The Guns of Navarone" and “T.J. Hooker,” along with his recurring role as Vic Fontaine in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” he wowed audiences around the world. Plus, with his Grammy nominated hit “Goodbye Cruel World,” he could do it all. And besides appearing on “Between the Lines” he was also a long-time friend.

He passed this morning leaving millions of adoring fans with heartbreak. My wife and I are amongst them.

In this episode we share so much of his kindness and talent that it should only bring back beautiful memories of this beautiful man.

A few years back I was in my doctors waiting room and in walked James Darren. As I found out he knew my area of South Jersey very well because his parents had lived in Blackwood NJ..

I had the pleasure of meeting James Darren at a Frankie Valli 4 Seasons concert a few years back. A true gentlemen, allowed a few pics and autograph. Rest In Peace and condolences 💐 to the family. A fantastic interview and thank you for posting.

So sorry to hear this unwelcome news of his passing . Disappointing that here in Australia James Darren's demise was unreported, especially as back in the early 60's he had several fine recordings that charted prominently here, most popularly, Goodbye Cruel World . Another of his releases which I thought meritorious, yet untypically underappreciated, was Pin A Medal
On Joey . The man had the ability to recognize a good song and also how to express it competently . Jame's, thank you for your artistic contribution, which is now your endearing legacy.

This was a great interview. My first time to visit your YouTube channel, Barry. You did such a great job letting James Darren talk.. just leading him in conversation, asking questions about events in his life. but NOT INTERRUPTING him or finishing his sentences for him! Great interview! I am subscribing. ( I was one of those baby boomers in love with Moondoggie, even though he was 18 years older than me!).

I loved The Time Tunnel when I was a child in the 1960s and he was great as the hologram singer in the holodeck in Star Trek: TNG.

The other day my friend and I was just talking about him. She, like my sisters, had a crush on him. I always remarked how huge his head is.

Thanks for this interview.
I was especially interested in his directing and how it occurred and how he got into it.
He was basically very good at everything.
He mentioned some great people like Rick Husky and Steve Cannell.
Funny Sir I was looking up Rick and couldn't even find any good pictures.
I love older television and would love to see you interview Rick Husky and others who are behind the scenes of these classic shows.
God bless you Jimmy Darren❤
