Are Millennials Changing Politics?

Millennials are getting older, but they're not getting more politically conservative as they age like past generations. You might know the old saying: "a 20-year-old who's a Republican has no heart, and a 40-year-old who's a Democrat has no brain."

Well, it turns out that phrase might be outdated because millennials aren't following these patterns. In both the US and the UK, 35-year-olds are the least conservative cohort ever recorded. That probably has a lot to do with our economic challenges. Many of us can't afford homes, children, or really fancy anything.

So, millions of us are likely to be more empathetic to government help for poor people and intervention in the economy to help make our society fairer. These trends are really bad news for Republicans in America and conservative parties all over the industrialized world. Republicans and conservative movements are clearly in trouble.

And really, they need a reality check. Because if drastic changes don't occur, it's only gonna get worse. Remember this fact: A Republican president has only won the popular vote once- Yes, once- since 1988. And, if you're wondering, that was Bush in 2004.

So, unless conservatives begin to propose policies that actually help Millennials economically empower themselves and craft messaging that actually resonates with us, they're going to have trouble getting back into power for decades to come.
