The following is the 12th in our “21 In ‘21” series that highlights one of the 21 AMA Superbike Champions each week as we move through the 2021 MotoAmerica season – the 45th year of the premier class championship.

Troy Corser showed up in America from his native Australia in 1994 and unless you followed the domestic Superbike Championship in Australia, chances are, you didn't know who he was. By the end of 1994, you most definitely knew who he was. He was crowned as the AMA Superbike Champion on his Fast By Ferracci Ducati in his rookie season. Corser won three races en route to the title and then...he was gone. Off to Europe and the World Superbike Championship after a handful of very successful outings as a wild card rider in the series in '94. In 1996, Corser became the youngest-ever World Superbike Champion on a Ducati. He would win that title again seven years later, this time on a Suzuki.

I remember the wheelie contests on pit road at Daytona during practice. Everyone would do them leaving the pit space. Troy's were pretty killer!

Thanks for the show Greg. I remember Corser as a smooth operator and seemed in control all the time. I remember the duels between the Troys, Corser and Bayliss. Thanks again.

Any time Troy was strapped and ready to lap, there was always a good chance he was coming home with the trophy

Super precise and fine driver, aggressive when necessary, a big fan of him since he was a child.

Brilliant rider, he took the Superbike field by storm here in the U.S. that season. Corser also had the 1998 World Superbike title all but won going into the final round at Sugo with points lead and pole position for the 2 races, but iirc had a false neutral at the end of the long front straight in morning warm-up, causing him a painful Turn 1 crash that ruptured his spleen. Foggy instead wrapped up yet another world title (with Aaron Slight and Neil Hodgson having a punch-up on a cool-down lap).
