Paddy Noonan - Paddy's Navy (1981)

Paddy Noonan, a legendary figure in the realm of Irish dance music, holds an enduring place in the hearts of countless admirers. Born on May 5th, 1936, in Mallow, Co. Cork, he embarked on a remarkable journey that would define a significant part of Irish American life in the latter half of the 20th century. Arriving in New York City at the age of 13, Noonan quickly made his mark, captivating audiences from the age of 16 at the City Center Ballroom. His accordion skills transformed him into a major attraction, drawing in 2000 Irish emigrants every Saturday night. Beyond being a musician, Noonan was a visionary entrepreneur, founding Rego Irish Records in 1969 and establishing Paddy Noonan Entertainments. He played a pivotal role in fostering Irish-themed travel with The Paddy Noonan Travel Club, showcasing destinations worldwide. A mentor to numerous musicians, he nurtured careers and toured extensively with his Irish Variety Show, becoming a household name amongst the Irish in America. Paddy Noonan, who passed away on April 7th, 2020, at the age of 83, will be remembered as a true gentleman, storyteller, and connector of people to their roots. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, his kindness, and the joyful melodies that defined an era.
