SpaceX just revealed the CRAZY plan for Starship Tower after the Catching attempt failed!
Starship has generated immense excitement, emerging as a potential breakthrough that promises to revolutionize spaceflight. SpaceX's goal is to increase the launch frequency from a few hundred times per year to several hundred times monthly.
However, Starship alone will find it challenging to achieve this speed. To realize this bold plan, an army of Starships will need a large-scale launch tower system to support and optimize the rocket launch process.
So, in today's episode of Alpha Tech, let’s explore the real reasons why SpaceX created the Starship launch towers and how their numbers could grow exponentially in the future.

Now, SpaceX has three Starship launch towers, although only one of them is in use. However, shortly, this number is expected to skyrocket with the rapid development of Starship.
The first launch tower to be discussed is the one at Starbase, which has undergone six Starship test launches so far and could potentially be used for the 7th or even 8th flight in early 2025, as Starship has yet to perfect catching both stages with its chopstick arms.
This is the first launch and catch tower for Starship ever used by SpaceX. It serves as a guiding structure for one of the most critical support systems for Starship launches.

Following the lessons learned, SpaceX quickly moved forward to build a second launch tower located right next to the first Starship tower at Starbase. This tower was assembled in record time, taking only four months to complete after the modules were prepared at the Kennedy Space Center.
At first glance, the two towers appear similar, but upon closer inspection, the second tower is slightly taller, by just over two meters. There are also some differences between the new and old towers due to modifications to certain components. For instance, the water deluge system and launch pad systems have been replaced with new structures, as mentioned in some of our previous episodes.

The first foreign Launch Tower and Mount will most probably be soon built in the West Coast of Australia being that Starship have already landed in the ocean off that part of the coast so the next logical step would be to have a land based Starbase plus within that region there are many natural resources which SpaceX would need to have easy access to !!!

When local governments start talking about 'environmental impact' of something, they're really saying 'hey, you owe us a bribe.'

Great content. Thanks for not drawing these videos out, like others do.

Very interesting! Thanks for the explanation for the benefits of catching the returning booster with the tower system. I had wondered why SpaceX developed that system.

I think the tower system as it is, will be a temporary expedient.

That as they start catching the Starships proper, with its smaller size and heavier mass to volume ratio, they will realize enough accuracy that it will dawn on them, that they can land them on boosters, directly, with perhaps a system that combines grid fins with Seperation Ring and a temprary funneling effect to catcher's mitt the Ships into good mating with the waiting boosters. eliminating towers as a necessity. Just have inspected boosters waiting, and a passenger and cargo handling system, and it could be shorter, if you used hot hop stacking for putting ships onto boosters.

Especially if they upgrade lateral thrusters, say with miniature Raptors also used in Moon and Mars landings to not dig holes...

Thing to realize, is we are still in the Era of Fear Based Engineering, But that these guys are really good, and will learn and grow better techniques that reduce complications, and cut costs.
Its an evoluyionary process, and not necessarily linear... Just because they use towers now, is no guarantee they will be used 20 years hence...

My guess they will load up ships, hop them onto boosters, fuel up the boosters and blast.

"We dont need no stinkin' towers now!"

Humor aside, its gonna be a big future, with alot of competitive developement that gets around.

I was on Ward Carrol's channel yesterday, and a video discussing Elon and DOGE and the Military, Ward and Guest were both respectful of Elon, and discussed practical issues related to military procurement.
But the peanut gallery in comments was less respectful....

A buncha Lifers.... Low imagination types, razzing about Elon, and that he wouldnt be able to do much...
I just chuckled, Knowing Elon will nail them, some new tech, for Drones, and Weapons that negate other threats.

And it wont take 20 years to boot... Maybe five tops...
I'd guess inexpensive fabricated and mass produced fighter sized drones and maybe orbiting solar powered lasers that nail ICBMs etc. from the edge of the sunny side... Might even offer a system that nails anything and everything not of peaceful intent...

The only war everybody wins, is the one that gets stopped before doing damage...

"Sorry! nobody gets to launch things at others."

Maybe SpaceX could sell anti war insurance policies? You pay us and nothing makes it into your borders...

Could get humorous, those guys thinking nothing new can be added to the equation...

Will be fun watching what happens....😊

If military are interested in starship, then it basically gives SpaceX a blank check

I am sure the military will want legs on their starships!

6-12-2024.
For SpaceX to launch 700 per year, it would have to go Global, not impossible but difficult at best, it's the catching towers the week link in the Rocket.

To generate more interest why don't You give measurements in American standards It would be much more interesting locally But we love the coverage But it's really hard to relate to distances and speeds in the metric system😢😎
