How to increase the size of your NECK (and why you maybe shouldn't) feat. Baraki & Feigenbaum

I am 4 weeks out from my next strongman competition and this is training day 4. I performed trap bar deadlifts, push press, and front squats. Drs Austin Baraki and Jordan Feigenbaum talk about how to increase the circumference of your neck and why some people probably shouldn't pursue that goal.

From my research I've done (peer reviewed articles). It says that direct neck training is more effective to gain neck size than indirect neck training (deadlifts etc). So doing neck flexion, extension and lateral flexion exercises for your neck is the faster way to developing your neck muscles.

Started using a neck harness a year ago and added a little over an inch to my neck. I look totally different with the added muscle..deadlifts shrugs etc never really did much for my neck..but we are all built different so it might work for others.

I’m glad you guys actually addressed when the neck harness would be useful. I saw a Chad Wesley Smith video where he was using one, and thought it made sense for MMA or any contact/combat sport.
As a soldier, I also deal a lot with the army body composition program, specifically checking soldiers who are above allowable weight to make sure they’re not too fat. One strategy the chronically borderline soldiers fall back on is to try and make their neck bigger. It’s ridiculous.

I just do neck training for the reduction of concussion regardless if I do contact sports, racing, & martial arts or not.

Hey Alan I've been thinking about using fake weights for overload training so I can curl more. Can I superset it with my towel rows? And cardio without hands: before or after training?

6:14. He's squating that weight like it was a easy 135 lbs warm up. Impressive tecnique.

These docs gave super generic answers. Sometimes it is good to just say, "neck training is not my area of expertise" and just leave it at that.
And also, I didn't get a clear answer on why I wouldn't want to deliberately increase the size of my neck.

I started neck training for a while but had to cut it out in the process of prioritization. But I started doing it again once a week (3-4x25 extension, curls, side bends) just because of how good it makes my neck feel to have all of the knots stretched out and the weak parts woken up from their down-looking slumber (I'm 6'5"). Thanks for the vid
