You cannot live in a world where no one ever offends anyone else. But you can live in a world where no one ever offends you.

A few of my favorite Seneca's quotes.

"We suffer more often in imagination than in reality."
"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."
"The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune's control and abandoning what lies in yours."
"Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body."
"True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future."

Keep living the Stoic path.

Stay Wise. Stay Mindful. Stay Stoic.

I have applied Seneca’s thoughts to my life for more than a year and my ability to be unperturbed is astonishing. I have PTSD from the military and going to war, from being attacked at 14 leaving me with a metal plate in my cheek - I was a raging person who was so defensive and I didn’t want to be hurt by anyone.

So what has changed? Well a lot.

I’ve had some really difficult times in these past 4 months, moving back to the United States from Italy, being separated from my family as we were held up by Lufthansa over 5 cm and list $4000 between two tickets and my dogs ticket. I didn’t raise my voice once. It took a week to get back home. This stuff works.

I no longer care what people think, I know what it comes down to is my perspective - that’s their problem they don’t like me. It is so freeing.

I like me and what I am doing feels right to me. I feel more centered and confident.

A strong mind that understands and resonates upon the principles of its humanity can never be underestimated

learning not to care has helped me cope with my existence. im not going to force others to align with my newfound world view, it just helps me avoid being tossed around in a never ending battle of suffering.

What makes Seneca resonate with me are his writings on grief. He rejects succumbing to despair and instead advises us to process our loss while maintaining our virtue. Great video!

The only way to build a strong character is to confront our biggest challenges and overcome them all.
Thank you for another amazing video :)

I have learned from divorce and loss of connection with my children, and having to resurrect the failing family business thereafter to support my children that nothing can harm me.
I was distressed at first that normally upsetting things left me unperturbed, thinking that I was now incapable of emotion. The truth is that I am better able to access the nuances of a moment in time rather than be swept away by unchecked reaction and doubt.

When I was 20 I wrote a book about how everyone will face a lonely death. This work changed my inner-strength. Parents passed, loved ones passed, the whole world could end, but I will be at peace with it. Thanks for your content. I very much enjoy your videos and the packaging of old but timeless wisdom

Seneca is right. We have become a culture afraid of harsh words because it breaks our dissonance of a difficult subject. If someone tells you the truth, then don't be upset by the mentioning of it but be willing to look at it honestly and then there is no reason to be afraid to hear it.

I like the correlation between Seneca's teaching on the endurance of a wise man and the softness of today's modern society. Instead of developing mental endurance, modern society chooses to suppress any critics, making them weaker mentally and physically

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from a good stoner friend of mine who was listening to me bitch about a bunch of shot, and he told me, "Dude, it doesn't matter." That advice has stuck with me through a lot of shit.

I agree with what is being said in this video. However, it's very easy to fall into not having boundaries for yourself. Just because an insult shouldn't/doesn't bother you, does not mean people should feel comfortable saying these things to you. I think it's still important to stand your ground and tell them it's not okay to speak to you that way.

Well according to me... learning to be unbiased in life is the most important skill that one could ever learn.

I was able to handle my grief much, much better when I said to myself that my dead loved one had experienced a good life with many blessings.

The cause of anger is the belief that we are injured; this belief, therefore, should not be lightly entertained. We ought not to fly into a rage even when the injury appears to be open and distinct: for some false things bear the semblance of truth. We should always allow some time to elapse, for time discloses the truth.
Seneca
