After deadly crash, Broward sheriff says new air rescue helicopters are on the way

Flags are at half-staff at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

As the agency mourns Monday's fatal crash of its air rescue helicopter, Sheriff Gregory Tony says it’s time for action. He said he met with the county’s mayor and assistant administrator Tuesday, and was assured the county would provide funding for two new helicopters.

24 year old helicopters! Kicking the can down the road! A Fire/Rescue Captain had to pass in the crash! 2023 FY Budget $5.8 Billion Dollars! In less than 24 hours the funds are allocated for 2 new helicopters! An absolute disgrace! Government bureacrats and adminstration at its worst!

Bet they are going to pay out more that the cost of even one of those birds just in the law suits. Makes you wonder how many other agencies are looking at their fleets right now and putting aircraft out of service before they have the same issue

So, they are using the fact the helicopter is old as reason for it crashed. Interested to hear the actual cause of engine fire.

If the Sherrif knew this aircraft was not air worthy, then he is responsible. Period.
The aircraft should have been grounded.

So the Sheriff just stated either they were not maintaining the aircraft, or he just threw the mechanics under the bus as scape goats by saying they were not doing their job properly.
