In 2014, to celebrate Austin City Limits 40th anniversary, we started our annual Austin City Limits Hall of Fame. Honoring the artists and others who been inspired the longest running music show on American television today. Artists included the legendary Willie Nelson, who first appeared in the pilot episode in 1974. Hosted by academy award winner Matthew McConaughey. With special guests Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett. Emmylou Harris made her Austin City Limits debut during Season 7 (1982), and Lyle Lovett made his solo debut in Season 12 (1987). Also honoring Austin blues legend Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, who appeared on the show in Season 9 (1984), and Season 15 (1990). Featuring Buddy Guy, who appeared on Austin City Limits in Season 16 (1991), Season 23 (1998), Season 29 (2003-2004), and Season 44 (2018-2019). Also honoring the late Austin City Limits creator Bill Arhos, who was the executive producer from 1982 to 1999 (seasons 7-24), and Texas Longhorns legendary football coach and ACL supporter Darrell K. Royal.
