The Canadian government sees the 2021 federal budget as a pivot point towards a greener economy.

Among the government’s budget proposals: $80 million towards a net-zero economy, which would include investing in clean technologies and reducing emissions.

Ottawa is also proposing a $115 million climate plan that includes help for agriculture and $90 million in interest-free loans to retrofit homes for energy efficiency. They also plan to put $605 million towards protecting nature.

But as Eric Sorensen reports, one region of Canada is watching the green transition with some trepidation— the oilpatch.

Imagine trying to get your nation out of the biggest economic hole it has ever been in, by taking a drastic shift to green energy investments that have no proven track record for success. Meanwhile global oil demand and demand for petroleum products has never been higher

I would cut all "green" spending
It's a scam

Maybe we should use some of the 3 years of oil sitting in the ocean instead of pumping more making oil companies richer.

Solar and wind will be very very small portion of the energy portfolio. Nuclear power is the future so hoping there's much more to come on that.

Remember how people were screaming that getting rid of coal will kill jobs and economy?
I am sure we will be just fine.

Meh. I’ll ride it out until I can’t and then I’ll move to the USA or overseas. It’s all fine to offer a training program to transition to something that will pay half or less but, are they going to pay the mortgage and feed my kids while I go back to school at 50 years old? Doubtful.
Time to pack up is all.
No hard feelings.
So long and thanks for all the fish.
