To anyone doing US history regardless if you're homeschool, going to online school (like me and yes people are still going to online school even though the pandemic is over), go to a hybrid school, or go to in person.

Here are the answers that you can use (you don't have to reword and if you are catch "plagiarizing" for some reason, just come back to this comment, that's if you can find it again.)

To settle across the land because of a cultural belief that white Anglo-Saxon Christian Americans are destined by their God to do so. And Americans thought they should do what the British did when it came to gaining new territories. And since America stopped being an isolationist country, it became a world superpower.
Strengthen the US military in order to compete with the rest of the world. This can be streamlined by a plan called the Mahan's Plan, which included having a navy called the Great White fleet because the holes on the ships were painted white. And gaining Hawaii was next to create a naval base that refuel and resupply ships. This navy base would later be known as Pearl Harbor. And establishing naval bases in the Caribbean was next because it allowed us to have control and dominance in the Western Hemisphere. And finally creating a canal in Panama that made the trip between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans much quicker and allowed the US to easily defend their nation quicker instead of going around South America.
To gain new markets because the industrialization of the United States caused an excess of goods and needed to sell them. Raw materials would come from US territories at the time then they were made into something and sold. And having territories would allow them to prevent waste because of the raw material coming from them and boost their profits.

Why do you not include wars against Native Americans and Mexico as imperialism?

Imperialism is what the Japanese did to Asia in the 1930s. Its not a naval base in Hawaii staffed by paid workers of mostly Japanese descent with civil rights (that they didnt have in Japan). If your school pitches this crap to you, you need to start asking questions. If we were imperialist, why did we support the independence movements of the former European colonies in Asia and Africa after WW2? Also ask what the Marshall plan was. Empires dont give $45 billion in aid to countries they “colonize”. They only take.
