Driving Thru Yosemite’s Wawona Tunnel at Sunrise

The tunnel view approach to entering Yosemite Valley is spectacular. To drive it take the south entrance into the park off highway 41. It’s the longest highway tunnel in California, almost a mile long and construction was completed in 1933.

The best time to visit Yosemite National Park and the valley is in late May to early-mid June when the winter snow pack is melting in the back country. At this time the waterfalls in the valley are awesome.

Expect to see deer grazing in the fields near curry village and if your lucky (or unlucky) a black bear or two in the valley usually near El Capitan or some of the quiet turnouts to the picnic sites. Avoid the bears if their cubs are with them, they will charge you, and never get between a bear and her cubs
