Use THIS to EASILY get out of bed in the morning

I discovered how I could get out of bed faster and easier in the morning. There is much advice on this topic, but most of it asks the wrong question, or rather an incomplete query. The question is not "how can I get out of bed faster?" but rather "how can I get out of bed faster while exerting the same amount of effort?" When we get out of bed, our subconscious mind, which has been in control while we were sleeping, is still making decisions for us. We, therefore, need to learn how to get our subconscious mind to decide that getting up is the better option.

There are three keys to doing this. The first key is to remove any friction. Our subconscious tries to move us in the path of least resistance, which is going back to bed. To make it easier to get out of bed, we can limit the number of decisions we have to make in the morning by doing things such as laying out our outfits the night before. The second key is to harness our subconscious response to pain and pleasure. Our subconscious always wants to take us away from pain and toward pleasure, or in this case going back to bed. We, therefore, need to figure out how going back to bed would cause more pain than getting up would. The third key is to set up a commitment device to force our subconscious to continue to want to get out of bed in the future.

Thanks for stopping by my channel where we focus our energy on self-improvement, productivity, and making the best possible versions of ourselves. Obviously, this is not attainable, which is kind of the point. Never stop growing and improving. Most of what we cover are personal lessons that I have learned, as I don't have the authority to speak for others, but just my personal experiences. Below we have a discord server where you can message me, there is my gear, and also my website. Thanks again for watching!

Hey Austin, I just found your channel via your "little notebook in your pocket" video. I really like the way you think and the way you make your videos, I think you're going to go far with this 👍

I'm a very deep sleeper and I've struggled with getting up in the morning. I want to share the one thing that has worked for me over the years. Like you said, you have to have some cue in your bedroom to wake you up, whether it's your light bulb on a timer as you suggested, or radio timer, or even an alarm set to a non-stressful sound. But the key for me was to have a second alarm that has a stressful sound (old fashioned alarm clock!) which goes off in my kitchen one minute after the non stressful bedroom prompt. What a person can do is train their brain to wake up to the first prompt, then the fear of the second prompt shocking your nervous system (or waking up your household), will force you to get to the kitchen and turn off the alarm before it goes off. Then you're in the kitchen. You pour yourself a large glass of water, and drink it all. At this point you're on your feet. Your warm, cozy bed is in a different room, and something about drinking water as soon as you get out of bed will put your brain online in a subtly different way. For me at least, this has been the magic formula. Anything and everything else I've ever tried has failed to allow my brain to make a decision upon waking. My body will just take over because of how deeply I sleep.

I hope this is helpful to some people!

One key for me is putting my alarm outside of the room and having a sequence of steps to follow immediately after. E.g. After I take off my alarm, I put on the light and make a cup of tea. Sometimes I put my plan for the day next to the alarm also which reminds me of why I got up early in the first place 😄

I tried to get up early for a long time. Now I have the perfect morning routine that puts me in the right state. But I figured out that my problem is that I really enjoy staying in bed in the morning. I read plenty of suggestions, but your video really addresses the main problem. The friction, pain, and pleasure, and future pacing I have to follow your suggestion. It's probably the best solution on the internet.

2:23 This is why I prefer sleeping on the top bunk of bunk beds (especially where there is a soft landing below)— my routine during boarding school (when I wasn’t sharing a room) was to wake up to an alarm clock with an incredibly irritating sound, throw myself off the bed onto the bed sticking out below and then switch off my alarm clock. The process wakes me up and also discourages my instincts to crawl back into bed as the ladder in my dorm was too much of a hassle to climb up (the bed below wasn’t used to i’d make sure it wasn’t made and didn’t have a duvet so if i ever tried to lie down on it i’d be cold and just get up again).

This is especially difficult for those of us with chronic pain conditions (and I have more than one). I try to get up at 4 or 5am just because it takes my body so long to "acclimate" to being awake and aware of the pain and sometimes nausea. (I also love the quiet!) Having a routine really helps, even if my body is fighting it.

Wow man, your videos are awesome! In the same way as a lot of other people right now, I just found you through the notebook video. Just wanted to say that the effort you put into your videos is very noticeable and I think it will pay off big time, probably right now. Good luck on your YouTube journey!

The light bulb idea is actually brilliant, I’ve noticed that I’m more inclined to climbing back into bed when it’s still dark out, so having the lights turn on before you wake up would definitely help. Thanks for the tip!

I feel like all of these motivational videos on how to wake up earlier all say the same thing. "Have a reason to get out of bed", "don't go back to sleep", "plan your day out", "which person do you want to be". Do you know how easy it is to back out and go back to bed? Just because i struggle to get up in the morning doesn't mean I'm "unmotivated" or "lazy". I am a human being, and i am obviously not perfect. I struggle with really intense anxiety and depression. I am also bipolar. It's not like i just tell myself, "okay, stop thinking negative and get out of bed". I am flawed and I'm just having a bit of a problem fixing my flaws. It doesn't make me less of a capable person or, lazy or not disciplined. I wish that these videos would explain actual tips to become a morning person that have factual results. The only thing i can do is keep trying. Does anyone have any tips on how to become a morning person that actually work?

Bro this is my biggest flaw and source of disappointment, that no matter what I can't get out of bed. and my whole life I thought Will was the only solution. but still failed which led to me questioning my own willpower
this is this is my first video on the subject and I was delighted that there are people who are suffering from the same issue
thank you for this video and I hope that that everyone becomes the best version of themselves

This was genuinely helpful. Thank you. It solidified some thoughts that I already had towards the matter, and really put things into a solution-oriented light.
