For years Air NZ took for granted the goodwill that Kiwis had for it, by pushing high prices. Yes the AA and United service level is awful in economy compared to Air NZ, but when they price gouge like they do, Air NZ shouldn’t expect Kiwi loyalty

The issue with ANZ is they are charging like a full service airline and running it like a budget airline, high prices and low service. I've had 2x flights cancelled this year, real pain and disrupts plans like you would not believe. They seem to be trying to claw back some profits from the covid years like other businesses are doing, most public have wisened up to that old trick.

Kiwi flyer here …. Flew Air NZ business class Ak to Singapore last year - what a letdown. Dated herringbone seating cabin was the worst, no privacy. This year they changed the schedule of our flight to a Brisbane from Wellington soo many times it was hopeless. Choosing other airlines for international now. Grudge purchase on domestic.

I did a bit of a calculation yesterday. The five ZK-OY# registered A321-271Ns that are in ANZ's fleet have done twelve flights in total this year. Four of which were delivery flights. The two most recent birds, OYD and OYE were delivered from Airbus and straight into storage. OYD hasn't done a single revenue flight since it was delivered almost a year ago. That's almost a billion dollars worth of aircraft... mothballed because of engine issues. It's absolutely a engine manufacturer issue, but some of the concern can fall back on Airbus who are releasing aircraft to airlines, only for them to go straight into storage.

I have been flying for work for 20yrs, 15-20 times per year. Over this time I have seen nothing but decline in Air NZs service and quality. 60% of today's flights I tale are either delayed or canceled. I now fly China as much as I possibly can. They remind me of air nz 15yrs ago. I have no sympathy for Air Nz and have removed all my investments of my portfolio.

A knee jerk reaction to the covid pandemic was the airline axing 8 x 777-200's. There was half the airline's long-haul capacity removed. The airline is very poorly led, has had multiple issues with service delivery domestically, affecting thousands of passengers, thus ruining its reputation and the good will New Zealanders had for it. Combined with horrifically expensive domestic airfares and a pronounced recessionary environment in New Zealand, and it's had a period of time it would rather forget. They've had very public scraps with Auckland Airport in the media, which unfortunately shows the limitations of their leadership. They've axed supposedly unprofitable domestic routes and finally, they will only fly long haul to Asia or North America from Auckland, therefore other players have come in and grabbed the South Island international long haul market share. These are very competitive routes. If you were in Christchurch, who would fly to the $h1thole airport that is Auckland, just to leave the country, when you can do so at Christchurch on other airlines?

Their competition is heating up i agree, i think united route direct Christchurch - US west is cheaper than going anz via Auckland. The company needs to compete on price more and has neglected south island routes.

Pre pandemic I always used Air New Zealand to go to Buenos Aires, return ticket was 300 NZ Dollars more than LATAM but unlike LATAM that stops first in Santiago Air NZ was flying straight to Buenos Aries, now for the same ticket Air NZ charge you double than LATAM, when I asked them the reason for that they said that the cost of fuel went up!

My issue with the airline is the 787 are 3-3-3 for economy when ANA does 2-4-2. Then on the 777 they went 3-4-3 when the original design was for 3-3-3. As others have commented they are charging high prices while providing small seats.

IMHO ditching the old nz1 akl/lax/lhr was the start of the demise. As a London based kiwi I always flew that route or the anz operated LHR HKG AKL, now on anz out of no you basically are forced to code share or are limited to very few route choices. For a very small operator it seems to me it was a daft decision.

I agree with Nebsuns comment. We would always fly Air NZ on our Aus to US via Akl trips. Now their prices are way too high, not competitive with Qantas and customer service is not as good as it was pre pandemic. Now just will fly Qantas until I see Air NZ’s prices come down.

If Boeing is to blame for Trent 1000 issues, then Airbus must be to blame for the PW1000G issues

Cheaper to fly Qantas or Jetstar. Airnz made what $150m nzd last year? And cost arms and leg to travel with them

It’s interesting reading a lot of these comments, they could be talking about Qantas. They also lost the plot through the covid years then resumed with extortionate price gouging and reduced service, almost like they hated their customers. The resemblance in business decisions is uncanny.

Air NZ have the extended range 787 10 to look forward to from 2025 onwards and once these PW problems are ironed out on the A320/321s, the future looks very rosy indeed for Air NZ...

It's like most New Zealand corporates unbridled greed.

Air NZ needs to be brought down a few notches, too bloody expensive.

Great video, I flew with Air New Zealand - great, but they still don't handle flights from Christchurch to Europe (you still have to go via Auckland) - for example to Singapore or another hub airport with a connection to Europe, but they also fly A380s to Christchurch, so the problem is not with the airport but with ANZ

Qantas isn't the national carrier period. It's a private company
