Video Descriptions with the new Seeing AI Update! #accessibility

There's an update for Seeing AI on both IOS and Android and here's some of the new stuff they have. I've been trying it out and so far the video descriptions are--well you can find out what my experience was like here!😉Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think.

Hi Carrie,
Loved the bloopers. For what it is I am fairly impressed with the video descriptions of Seeing AI. I think it has a way to go and it's far from perfect but it's a fair start. The fact that it is totally free, with the only caveat being that you can only have 10 videos described, is so cool. Sometimes it fails to describe a video and I don't know if that counts against your ten uploads but it is something worth noting. It is not the best at noting facial expression changes and other subtle differences but hopefully that will improve in time. I am hopeful it will get better and hopefully faster too, sometimes it takes absolutely ages for even a short video to be describe. Still I am optimistic and loving the new feature.

I didn’t know this was a thing you could do already with other apps but it’s a great start. Maybe they should implement an options menu before the video is processed. Like where you can select if you want text to be read or just scenes or just facial expressions. Might help cut down on time processing videos. A status indicator would help too just to see where you’re at.

I think it should be great. The direction are going like anything else. This is a first release of this part of the technology. I fully expect that as it matures, it will become much more user-friendly. They will probably be following feedback such as yours and mine that will tell them hey this is what we expect you to do. Keep on going at it. Thanks for the video, as always

I totally agree about the ability to send a link to the app. While it is nice to have descriptions of videos which are already on my phone, having the ability to get descriptions of YouTube vids would be super helpful!

Another great review, Carrie. I agree with your assessment. I'll pull out my pet peeve with Seeing AI though ... how about making it a priority to provide the World Channel on Android? Geesh, we've been waiting a very long time for that.

I think you should be able to upload photos and videos from within the app itself. I still don't like how you can't do that with photos yet. That last blooper was definitely my favorite lol

I usually use piccy bot especially when I edit a video. Hopefully in the future seeing ai can be another tool in my tool kit. I have to say I am still a little bit amazed that we can get videos described at all as about a year ago that probably wasn’t a reality. I like the fact that you can hear a little bit of a video then Seeing AI describes it. I too am a little disappointed about it not reading text. I was hoping it would be a way to get those videos that have no Audio read out. you know the ones just with music and nothing else at least not for us.

i agree that piccy bot is so much faster than seeing ai even with short videos seeing ai is so much slower.
but i'm not going to lie the update is a big improvement but there's always room for more improvement.

The problem for me with seeing AI is that the OCR processing is great but there is no way to send PDF files for it to process. Which is what I wanna do in most cases

Unlike the description from PICCIBOT, you cannot share the description from seeing AI, which drives me up a wall. I’m not the biggest fan of the way PicciBot describes videos, I find it corny, but at least it will let you share the video with the description attached to it. I agree that this is a great feature, but I hope they do improve upon it.

I wonder if there is anyone who regularly uses Seeing AI who HASN'T sung along with that stupid jingle lol.

That first description seemed pretty bad to be honest, but we have to start somewhere I suppose. It's a lot to ask of a machine that still struggles to identify how many Rs are in the word "strawberry".

well tbh, the update seems interesting. but you see, they need to improve their image descripition especially when it comes to a person rofl! i'm 18, and it said "a 36 year man is sitting on a stool wearing a white shirt and blue pants. roflrofl"
