In the verses, the vocals play a single lead role, so the instrumental has a very important role with all the synths and strings present. In the chorus, the backing vocals take over with layers of harmonies and adlibs supporting the lead vocals eliminating the need of support from extra instrumentation.

The greatest hits are done this way. Genius song writing. I've been listening to this song since I was 5, and i am 42 now and a professional mix engineer and producer, and Abba have a major influence in the way my studio works.
